Tyrese Hunter Entering the Transfer Portal - NIL Speculation

What the hell is LifeWallet I assume it was started by a UM damn I wouldn't have guessed Miami would throw that kind of money after BB players.

Lifewallet is like an app to house your medical history. It allows you to share it with any providers you need to. It was started by a guy in Miami, I don't believe he is a Miami alumni but has NIL deals with numerous Miami athletes and lists them all on the website.

That’s not a political statement by the way (I see the dumbs). I don’t personally think taxes are too high. I’m saying that these kids my be getting sold on a deal that will turn out to be a lot less than what they believe it to be. I mean who’s looking out for their interests here? The folks doling out this money are mostly rich folks who didn’t get rich by accident.

Chances are they have agent directing that stuff. And if they don't and get in trouble, who cares, let them learn some lessons the hard way.

Man, would like to see how these contracts are being drafted. Take Pack for example. 2 years at $400k per year. What about if:

1. Player gets kicked off the team after year one.
2. Player has issues with the coach and gets relegated to the bench for most of the season.
3. Out for a whole year with injury.
4. Goes into a scoring/shooting slump and doesn't produce anywhere near his numbers at KSU.
5. Drops out of school.

Also, let's say a player wants to leave for another team. Will the new team have to pay back that player's remaining contract (like in the pros)? This is such a mess.

I know he has things to work on but I don't see at all why you think he would possibly play a lesser role. He'll play more than Remy Martin did.
I did not say I think it's the most likely outcome. But it is a possible outcome. Far more possible than his role here being less than last year's.

In the last 10 seasons, only one KU pg had the usage Hunter's would have here. Even Frank Mason's senior season did not have the usage. And Hunter has a long ways to go to be Frank Mason.

Wonder how many BMW and Mercedes dealerships are going to start opening up in college towns all across the country.

I'm with you. I liked that NIL was gonna let players do **** like make money shooting local or regional commercials (for big time players) or do paid appearances, etc. Sign a deal with a car dealership and get a new ride, whatever.

I was naïve to how quickly it would become purely pay-for-play. By all means, I think that athletes should be paid given how much money the industry drives, but this wild-west, no rules landscape we find ourselves in sucks. There's no way I can see to reign it in, either.

Blew up fast and a TON of money compared to what I would have thought.

My man I said your description for a 3 star recruit getting 200k was insane. Never once did I say 50k was the limit just that it would be the new standard for all players on a team.
You've been off on NIL and realignment your entire time on this forum.

Is this you starting to poke your head out of the sand?

Also, thinking of coaches and universities themselves not being the ones directly doing these contracts. Like in my example above, what guarantees that a coach has to play the player to get maximum returns? They might just end up being a minor bench player, while the group that ponied up the cash wants them to play a larger role to justify their investment.

What happens when the coach leaves?

Keep that copium flowing. He’s a bad ass and an elite defender already. There’s no way his offensive efficiency decreases or stagnates. Worst possible scenario. I’d rather he went to Iowa.
No one is paying 500k for his defense.

He wasn't even all conference. When the talk was about matching, I doubted Hunter was worth 200k compared to what is out there. For 500k for no way we should not have matched. Go get 2 or 3 players that are already better than what Hunter was last season, just seniors, and improve multiple spots. Buying upside is becoming a fools errand in college basketball, it's why transfers have blown up. Granted, at KU if you can buy both and have other options.

freshman get better, he'll likely eventually be worth that. Maybe even next year. KU normally has good players, so it is not a huge blow. Better it be Hunter than Pack or Davis imo

It’s now a professional league with no players union or CBA and zero competitive balance rules. Owners are a random collection of whoever wants to throw money at 18-23 year olds to help their alma mater win games. Total disaster. I really don’t think it will take long for something to be done about it honestly.

Don't forget a DRAFT.

Probably the biggest key to making the NFL, NBA and to some degree MLB work.

As annoying as Hunter at Kansas would be, I think you're right that from a pure basketball standpoint, it sure beats them having Pack or Davis.

I think Hunter can become a great college player, and already is a great college defender. But he's far from Pack or Davis on offense at this point.

Now watch him shoot 40% from three next year and turn it over half as much because I just said that.
Im sure his offense numbers will improve greatly playing on a team with an offense, assuming his playing time and usage remain similar. Got to be hard to get assists with the shooting we had last year.

This is what OU FB players are supposedly getting:

But it’s not pay for play…

Because, yes the local Norman Ford dealership is interested in paying a 3rd string TE 50k to make some commercials.

For men’s sports NIL so far looks like about 2% actual NIL and 98% straight Wild West pay for play. But the important thing is lawyers are making sick cash repping athletes, so that’s good.

I’m sorry what have I been off on for realignment? Pretty sure I said every single thing that happened. Also I started a thread last summer on how ISU should start an NIL fund to get each player 50-100k and was negged to oblivion

Screw that if he goes to KU I'll boo him from when he steps on the court till when the game is over, the only choice that would have been worse is Iowa

As crazy as this sounds I think Kansas is the worst. If he goes to Iowa big deal that's once a year. With Kansas we face him twice with a third possibility at the conference tournament.

I have a hard time believing all the stories about guys getting caught off guard by the taxes.
