Tyrese Hunter Entering the Transfer Portal - NIL Speculation

Wasn't being literal. Just saying he did some great things and was not a national name...being at a better school helps that.

I'd also argue that he maybe doesn't turn it over as much without carrying so much weight. Maybe even more assists when reliable shooters are everywhere.
I think one year at ISU ended up working out beautifully for Tyrese Hunter.

Wonder if any of them will actually have to advertise the actual product they are getting money from? Like does Nigel have to pimp out his product? I mean I saw the Patrick mccafrey pizza commercial. Stuff is gonna get awkward really soon if no personality types like Tyrese have to shoot commercials and so on.

And chance at more winning and legit shot at a natty, more TV time, etc.

As B12 Freshman of the year he was on ESPN+ or ESPNU an awful lot.

If he were on a KU etc many more people would have known about his assist stats.
Yeah didn’t help we ******* sucked two years ago lol.

The NIL thing lasted about two months. There’s no point in referring to it anymore. It’s just pay-for-play now.

It’s now a professional league with no players union or CBA and zero competitive balance rules. Owners are a random collection of whoever wants to throw money at 18-23 year olds to help their alma mater win games. Total disaster. I really don’t think it will take long for something to be done about it honestly.

I agree with everything but the last part. There is no overriding governing body that can do anything about it (the NCAA is functionally dead as far as that goes IMO), and the schools that would have the power to do something like that have no incentive to. They're the ones benefitting the most. Why would Alabama or Texas or Oklahoma or whatever other schools that can throw that money around want to reign it in?

Shame? It's business. What did everyone think would happen when money legally becomes then be all/end all in "amateur" sports?

I think everyone needs to take a substance pill to alleviate themselves of their symbolism headache.

Tyrese wasn't recruited by TJ, but stuck out his first year anyway when ISU fired the coach which he committed. He was a huge cog in making TJ's first year a rousing success (22 wins and a sweet 16)..................................and now people want to boo him?

Stay classy ISU fans.

Screw that if he goes to KU I'll boo him from when he steps on the court till when the game is over, the only choice that would have been worse is Iowa

I'm with you. I liked that NIL was gonna let players do **** like make money shooting local or regional commercials (for big time players) or do paid appearances, etc. Sign a deal with a car dealership and get a new ride, whatever.

I was naïve to how quickly it would become purely pay-for-play. By all means, I think that athletes should be paid given how much money the industry drives, but this wild-west, no rules landscape we find ourselves in sucks. There's no way I can see to reign it in, either.

Paging @FriendlySpartan who said 50K was the limit for NIL money. I guess the 2mil for Thiebs and 800k for Pack should shut you up.
My man I said your description for a 3 star recruit getting 200k was insane. Never once did I say 50k was the limit just that it would be the new standard for all players on a team.

Good point.

As annoying as Hunter at Kansas would be, I think you're right that from a pure basketball standpoint, it sure beats them having Pack or Davis.

I think Hunter can become a great college player, and already is a great college defender. But he's far from Pack or Davis on offense at this point.

Now watch him shoot 40% from three next year and turn it over half as much because I just said that.

Keep that copium flowing. He’s a bad ass and an elite defender already. There’s no way his offensive efficiency decreases or stagnates. Worst possible scenario. I’d rather he went to Iowa.

I agree that him at Kansas would suck immensely. The only copium there is that Davis and Pack are more explosive offensive players.

I also think defensive performance is largely team-driven. I think Hunter is great individually but was also in a great position to succeed on a defense like ISU's last year. That defense forced lots of bad shots and turnovers because everyone scrambled exceptionally well. Plus he rarely had to guard the opponent's best player even though I think he probably could have.

He'll be excellent somewhere else next year and only get better. But you're crazy if you'd rather play against Nigel Pack or Kendric Davis on Kansas IMO.

I wonder if anybody has told Pack how much of that the government is going to get. Hopefully he learns that before he starts spending it.
That’s not a political statement by the way (I see the dumbs). I don’t personally think taxes are too high. I’m saying that these kids my be getting sold on a deal that will turn out to be a lot less than what they believe it to be. I mean who’s looking out for their interests here? The folks doling out this money are mostly rich folks who didn’t get rich by accident.
