This isn't as fun to talk about but is a reality is style of play. You can win playing TJ's style. You can win with less talent playing TJ's style. Howvever, it is not necessarily a FUN way to play and somebody(agents) got in Tyrese's ear about this style not translating to the NBA.

Yes. It did turn out better for Hunter that TJ was his Coach this past year rather than Prohm.
The best thing that can happen to NIL is a bunch of Billionaire dudes from Small schools like Montana State, North Dakota State, Arkansas little rock, and some other mid majors, start paying kids intending to go to UNC, Kansas, Duke and the rest, a crap load of money to come to those type of schools. Then they become powers and the NCAA would have to do something because the blue bloods would lose their crap.
I do think the visceral reaction from most is not about Hunter but about how freakin' exhausting it's going to have to be to sweat it out every offseason with every good player we have going forward.
Not God but the gods. Been watching too much Viking era TV shows so I am more thinking it is the pagan sports gods that hate ISU. They are a fickle bunch. Going to try and find a seer that will cast some runes and let me know how this is going to end.
You just accept the fact that the days of 4 year players are over. All that matters is the name on the front of the jersey. Coaching staffs have to be able to operate in that environment. I’d rather have TJ running the show than say Fran McCaffery.
What do I propose? I'll wait and see, but I'm considering the idea of no longer following college sports.
If I want to watch paid athletes compete, I can watch my NFL and NBA teams. At least they have rules in place to ensure a level playing field. Unless changes are made soon to NCAA rules, collegiate athletics will quickly become a joke.
Plus, it would free up a lot of money that I currently spend each year on donations and tickets to ISU events....money that could be diverted to helping my kids and grandkids.
UNI could not go to the Drake model. The level of football player would dramatically decrease, attendance would tank and bottom would fall out of both Panther Scholarship Club donations and corporate money and UNI tuition isn't high enough to offset that. You can put any regional public university in as a placeholder for UNI and that would remain true.
Every college athlete, regardless of university, is still eligible for need based grants and the departments work with those kids and families to file FAFSA just like a regular student would. Basically a kid that comes from a low income family uses that Pell Grant money as regular students would use money from a part time job.
What schools would you say play a comparable style to ours? Have they had any guys make it to the NBA?
A lot of it will depend on how public his salary is made, and how his salary was structured.
If he does really well or really poorly after he starts playing the story will get bigger too.
It certainly wasn't a case of a good player just wanting to get to NCAA tournament or a program that could get him there. I mean maybe he wants to be at a program that can win a National Championship but basketball is such a crap shoot with the format. This year's KU team wasn't better on average than lots of other KU teams, they're just good enough every year that they are due a championship, no college player can pin point that other than maybe the brief spell Kentucky had a decade ago or UCLA's vintage dynasty over a generation ago.
Yeah, the NBA hates lockdown point guards who can create off the dribble.

Isn't that what Memphis has been trying and the NCAA keeps finding ways to keep them down?
Yup. It's going to suck for fans of our teams (ISU and Iowa) when our coaches find the diamond in the rough type of players who then bolt for more money elsewhere. Both of our programs have had their successes in large part due to those types of players.
I guess I'm intrigued by the idea that a blueblood school equates to big donors. Does KU really have that much bigger of donor base than us? Michigan State? UNC?
I'm honestly asking. I get they are historically great basketball schools. But what about their universities lends to them having more big money behind them? It's not like they are Stanford or something with a rolodex of billionaire alums.
