Huggins probably needs to keep that message confined to his locker room, but he’s not wrong.

They absolutely pissed that game away. Inbounding to the corner, allowing the trap, the bad pass that was stolen, and rushing shots last two possessions.

They never, ever should have lost that game. These are high level college basketball players that have probably played 500 basketball games between middle school, high school, AAU, and college. And what Huggins is preaching is 5th grade basketball fundamentals.

Looks like a logjam at 5-8 in the standings. We get to play 2 of those teams and the one we don't (TCU) plays KU twice and Tech. It would be nice to avoid the top 3 in KC until Friday.

I agree with what you said, but I just don't think it's good (or realistically okay) to say those things to the press post-game. I get it's just semantics, but saying "we have to do a better job in those situations" is very different from saying "they have to do a better job in those situations." Plus, he's been there a long time, and he recruited/has coached these guys.

That is a ticket punching win for the Cyclones (if they weren't in already). Tough and gutsy as it'll get. Now we just play for seeding and for momentum going into both post-season tourneys

- Gabe K was huge again tonight and I love seeing him play this well down the stretch.

- IZB is a pure winner and has also made himself a TON of money this season. The dude is elite.

Huggy has done this to his team a couple times this year, he apologized to the fans for how bad they played earlier in the year. I've always felt like his players really liked him but this seasons seems different, he may swirling the drain.

I know we've had it in the past, and I know there's mred's site to play with scenarios, but I'm wondering if anyone's done any computer simulation on % chance for Big 12 tournament seeds. Are chances pretty solid we avoid Wednesday now?

Oklahoma would need to win the last 3 and we would have to lose the last 3 to end up on Wednesday night. We will likely be #5 or #6 seed.

They had a guy that was 0-Fer on 3s for his 5 year career and made his first tonight. Same guy was 43% from FT on the season and went 8-9. Another guy was 0-fer the Big XII on 3s and hit 2-2 tonight. They were due some bad breaks. Sometimes our guys win battles because they’ve played that many games too. But I get your point.

Does anyone feel bad for WV?
Huggins is not a happy man. Some of his post game comments:

"We didn't do what I asked them to do twice. I told them not to run the corner and get trapped. They never did anything I've asked them to do. I've tried to cover and cover and cover for guys. I'm tired of...My guys before were afraid of not doing what I asked them to do because they knew they would never play again."

"When you compete that hard, you ought to win. When you call a timeout to tell them what to do, you ought to win."

"I don't know what to say. The truth of the matter is, you let your team down by not doing of the right thing. You let the thousands of Mountaineer fans down that wanted to see us win."

"We come out of the huddle with do you know what you're doing? Do you know where you're supposed to be? It's frustrating."

"We don't do what we're asked to do. We have guys who have their own agendas."

Honestly this seemed like our team last year.

I'm sure it's already been stated, but I don't recall ever seeing such a double standard of officiating in favor of the visiting team! These refs called the game as if Huggins was holding their families hostage.

As we tried to run offense, WV was constantly pushing our guys off course. Just shoving us so we got out of place. Never called. But on defense, we touch or slap at WV with a hand, foul! Just so obviously one-sided and inconsistent. Truly maddening! No wonder it took a near miracle to pull that out.

This is honestly kind of disgusting stuff from Huggins. I feel bad for his players.

I disagree. Huggins has always been honest both downplaying his coaching and giving credit to his players. But when push comes to shove he holds players accountable for their actions as well. The reality is that losing Oscar T. to Kentucky due to tampering really undercut his program. I don’t think he is close to hanging it up but I think this team doesn’t have the intangibles that many of his past squads have had.

I was looking forward to seeing Huggins go against his old school in Cinci when they joined, but I wouldn't be surprised if he hangs it up after this year.

It's going to come down to last game with 4 teams fighting for 5-8. Definitely not out of the woods for the 8 seed even if we go 1-2.

I don’t think that is correct. At 6-12 we would have the tiebreaker over OU and WVU.

I caught some of Huggins' web conference postgame comments where we was even more direct in his criticism of his players...didn't call out any players by name, but very clearly got the point across that McNeil was getting picked on because other teams watch film and know (like WVU does) that he doesn't guard, or care about guarding. When asked if they tried to avoid the matchup of him on Brockington, Huggins said they always try to avoid that matchup every game. Some of the most direct criticism of a player I've heard in a forum like that. Also called out the player (might have been Curry, based on looking at the replay) on the inbounds play that IB stole the ball on, for not doing what he was told and streaking deep after setting a screen. I've thought in the past that Huggins will make comments after a loss that imply "it's not my fault, the players don't do what I tell them to." I agree that it's not a good look...have always been amazed that he gets the players that he does to go play for him.
