Huggins is not a happy man. Some of his post game comments:

"We didn't do what I asked them to do twice. I told them not to run the corner and get trapped. They never did anything I've asked them to do. I've tried to cover and cover and cover for guys. I'm tired of...My guys before were afraid of not doing what I asked them to do because they knew they would never play again."

"When you compete that hard, you ought to win. When you call a timeout to tell them what to do, you ought to win."

"I don't know what to say. The truth of the matter is, you let your team down by not doing of the right thing. You let the thousands of Mountaineer fans down that wanted to see us win."

"We come out of the huddle with do you know what you're doing? Do you know where you're supposed to be? It's frustrating."

"We don't do what we're asked to do. We have guys who have their own agendas."

Guys, you can thank me for the W… I turned it off when we were down by 12 and willed the win!
I think that was the first hit on the home defib. Saved most of the juice for the end. It was needed. I have just now recovered (about 90 minutes later)

That is pretty much throwing your team under the bus, he is not wrong, but man it is not a good look.

Huggs might hang it up after this year, he really sounds like he is done with the coaching thing and dealing with todays players

I know we've had it in the past, and I know there's mred's site to play with scenarios, but I'm wondering if anyone's done any computer simulation on % chance for Big 12 tournament seeds. Are chances pretty solid we avoid Wednesday now?

Can't speak to the percentages but having played around with the generator for ~10 minutes if we lose out from here first day is still quite likely, even winning vs OSU still leave a solid number of scenarios where ISU is the 8 seed.

None of his players are remotely as skilled as IB. He should feel thankful the officials, especially in the first half, had no understanding of the rules of basketball.

Couple of thoughts. The first two obvious.

*That is one of the single best offensive performance we’ve seen in the past decade. Ejim game was otherworldly, but it was against a team 0-10 in conference and an easy win.
* Gabe had one of his best games of the season, but will be understandably overshadowed by IB. Not highest scoring but 17 points on 10 shots is super efficient. Clutch 3s late have us a chance and clutch free throws iced it.
* Do not understand why we don’t foul on that last possession up 3. I know that is one of the gray basketball debates, but feel like they could have got a decent look isolated on Jaz like that and they were shooting well tonight. Wonder if that’s TJs philosophy. Had similar question a few games ago when I questioned why Jaz didn’t miss last free throw on purpose at the end.
* understated play of the game might be forcing that trap and timeout right before the IB steal. They burned their last time out which proved to be really meaningful. Knowing you have no timeouts puts a lot of pressure on the inbounder which we saw the result of (fortunate for us).

A quick assessment thru MRed (subject to verification, do not hold me to this)... ISU not out of the woods for 8/9, if we finish 0-3 ... but if ISU wins one more and TCU loses more than once, I think 7 is the lowest.

Could be post-game euphoria, could be weekday beverages, but 5, even 4-seed in conference tournament is now my hope!

This is honestly kind of disgusting stuff from Huggins. I feel bad for his players.

Fwiw, I agree with not fouling there given the game flow... Isu was getting its butts kicked on the offensive boards, and these refs weren't above calling fouls on rebounds. Those two together make a dangerous threat.

Best we can do is a 5 seed in KC. If Bevo loses out and ISU wins out we can tie them for fourth, but they own the tiebreaker, having beaten top seed KU one time to ISU's zero.

The refs called the game that Huggie bear wanted to be called. Lots of reaching in, grabbing and holding, tons of free throws, which tonight WV was excellent at, and in the end, ISU comes up with a gut check win.

Not the best win of the year, but one that we badly needed and got.

I dabbled a little more since my previous post, there are more scenarios for 8/9 than I thought initially, some involving tie-breakers and also OU, even if ISU does win one more game. A lot hinges on TCU, and my gosh what a brutal stretch to conclude the season.

Technically Kansas could lose to TCU twice, thus putting Tech in the #1 seed letting ISU have the #4 seed. It's absolutely not going to happen but it theoretically possible.

Fair point. I also think our inconsistency from the line plays a part. You foul them and then they foul you. Still think that’s a big hill to climb in college where you can’t advance to half court in a dead ball (although they had no timeouts).

It’s an interesting debate, for sure. You probably also like our chances playing defense straight up for 8 seconds. Would not say that about a lot of ISU teams historically.

What I really don’t get is why we let them roll the ball to nearly mid court. Tyrese is a good enough defender to force a pick up much further in the backcourt snd still recover. Especially when you only have to guard the three point line behind him.

Honestly one of the biggest things actually would be beating K-State, if ISU is only going to get 1 more win that one looks to be quite valuable for tiebreakers.

It's going to come down to last game with 4 teams fighting for 5-8. Definitely not out of the woods for the 8 seed even if we go 1-2.

Any players that we might want that could transfer away from that asshat?
