If these losses were more spread out I agree. You don't beat a bunch of tourney teams in December then beat 2 very good teams in Hilton then all of sudden you can't win another game. Questions should be asked.

Even losses spread out would raise questions about how uneven the quality of play was...you're world-beaters one game and losing at home to K-State the next? That would (fairly) have people questioning coaches too.

Look I’m sorry for starting a controversial thread, but Chris was super critical of the fans questioning the TJ hire when things were good. His bias very evident. Obviously we all want TJ to succeed, but it just rubs me the wrong way that he can’t own up to he may be wrong about TJ from what we’ve seen recently. He’s been out coached, that’s a fact.

Oh it’s absolutely glaring! Coach Self absolutely schooled him without their best player..

No.

Are we sure he was doing a great job early outside of having a foundation of defense/toughness? It wasn't like ISU out-schemed anyone. The talent limitations, even with a bunch of players with experience, were very evident.

ISU played well together early while most teams didn't.

When the dust settles, and every team has guys that can consistently shoot, winning is hard.
I really like this post. My only concern is that the post-game comments and in-game coaching make me believe the plan is mostly to dig in further with the foundation of defense and toughness. Basketball is a game that's about so much more than that. I've said it before, I like the three signees in a vacuum, but overall it's a class that has two guards that are not really shooters at the high school level and a wing that shouldn't be tasked with being a genuine three point threat from the start. A lot is riding on TJ being able to move beyond the defense/toughness angle and hearing that drum be beat after every game, even following the lowest scoring game in Hilton history and shortly followed by the lowest scoring game in 60 years, is a concern.

I just realized that both Memphis and Creighton are likely going to be Q1 wins for us in a day or two, meaning we would be back to having 7 Q1 wins.

If we finish 18-13 or something like that with 7 Q1 wins and miss the tourney (which is what would happen IMO) but other teams with zero Q1 wins get in and still have roughly 10 losses, it's gonna be ******* annoying as ****.

CW is open about his personal relationship with the Otzelbergers. Whatever bias goes with that you just have to discount I guess. But it is also a fact that he took a lot of **** about not calling out Prohm directly also. It's just not his style. What do you expect from a fan site?

It never turns out well when you have the 10th best coach in a 10 team conference. TJ has a ton to prove still. Not winning a game after Jan 29 will be pretty concerning. I probably would have felt better if we would have ended 12-20 and actually improved as the year went on. TJ has been completely out coached in every game the past few weeks.

This is not a talent issue. Look at the rest of our resume this year. We are plenty talented. At least enough to hold onto a 15 point second half lead in Hilton against a team that is NIT bound at absolutely best.

Anyone giving TJ a pass on this or blaming this one on Prohm is crazy. This coaching staff needs to change something.

When is the last time we gave up a 15 point lead in the second half in Hilton against an Average team?

To be fair this feels pretty common in college basketball currently.

Lots of Jekyl/Hyde out there.

ISU's lack of fundamentals/ball control is what I wonder about.

It definitely was common at UNLV for him. There never was any consistency. Actually, so far his Iowa State career is similar. Pick up some big wins early, beat a top 10 team, and then completely fall apart later on.

Also ironic that CF loves to bash the Iowa media obsession with their coaches yet blasts the OP for calling out a lack of objective reporting by CW. Seems like double standard.

That would be true. If this was the Des Moines Register or Cedar Rapids Gazette.

Well, apparently not if you look at the results.

Btw I'm not giving TJ a pass (likely sounds like it)--situational awareness and being smart with the ball are coachable and attainable. Lately this group collectively has flinched.
