If we are able to trade Cousins, I wouldn't mind signing a Jameis Winston or Mitch Trubisky to a one year deal. Best case scenario the new staff can get enough out of them to make a playoff run and they look like geniuses. Worst case they blow up and we have a high draft pick in 2023 to be in position to get a CJ Stroud or Bryce Young.

No, Worst case is they go 9-8 and get the 18th pick in the draft.

You can't blow up the Vikings for a total rebuild until you know for certain the future of ARog in GB.

2022 is his final year under contract. If he signs an extension or is not traded prior to training camp. Then you start trading away everything.

Jefferson is going to want out if the team is having a fire sale this winter. You HAVE to keep him happy. Top 5 WR's don't grow on trees. You potentially have two tackles singed for 4+ years. Those are building blocks for win now. Not tear it down and rebuild

I agree and it may not be popular to say but let’s get maximum value for him.

Think you trade Cousins, cut Hunter and cut Pierce. Hunter because he's hurt all the time and Pierce because he's somewhat replaceable. That gets them $39 million under the salary cap. You then draft Linderbaum at #12 and sign a RG. Use the rest of the draft to fine CB, LB, DL, OL. Sign a QB, or if the new regime likes Mond, go with him, but I doubt it.

Maybe they can grab Uwazurike, Rose, Kolar and Purdy and make my head explode.

The need DL and Uwazurike might fit at either DE or DT in the future. They will need LB with Barr leaving, so Rose would be a great fit. I don't think they can afford to sign Conklin, so Kolar (or Allen) makes sense.

Hope they can re-sign Xavier Woods, then their Safeties are solid with him, Smith and Bynum.
CBs are a huge question mark. Would have Dantzler, Boyd and Hand on contract. Boyd and Hand could each save nearly $1M on the cap if cut, though.
LB is weak after Kendricks. Maybe Blake Lynce or Chazz Surratt step up.
DT would still have Tomlinson, Lynch and Watts, plus a wildcard in Twyman.
DE would be down to Wonnum, Jones and Robinson, so big question marks.

If you draft Linderbaum, you've got the makings of a really solid OL. O'Neill and Darrisaw at tackle, Linderbaum at C and Cleveland at LG. Maybe Wyatt Davis figures it out at RG, or you sign someone new. Maybe Bradbury could play better at guard? I don't know. Either way, you are stuck with him.

I'd consider trading Mattison, if you got something good for him. He's got one year left is all and I bet he gets a bigger contract, so he'd be leaving eventually.

Here is a proposed Vikings draft - cyclone blinders on later rounds :)
1st Round - Linderbaum. If he's gone, maybe you go with with Kenyon Green (OL) from A&M or Nakobe Green (LB) from Georgia
2nd Round - Edge rusher - Jermain Johnsone from FSU or Travon Walker from Georgia
3rd Round - best available CB, LB, Edge
5th Round - Mike Rose
6th Round - Chase Allen
6th Round - Enyi Uwazurike
6th Round - Brock Purdy
7th Round - Andrew Mevis

I like where you're at with rounds 5-7 in your mock draft....I just don't think I could buy that many jerseys. :)

In seriousness though, they are going to need LB's. I don't think I'd be more excited than if they could get Rose. He's a warrior and such a smart player. Would love to see him next to Kendricks.

There is no reason to trade Jefferson. If you don't rebuild fast and he gets fed up, then trade him. Otherwise, he can be part of a fast rebuild.

Right, if they can keep him happy, he'd be a good incentive for a possible free agent QB if they can open up that roster spot.

The reality of it is, even though I'm not huge on the guy, it probably makes the most sense to extend Cousins. Convert his base salary into a signing bonus and free up some money for 2022. This year's QB draft class is historically weak, and I'm not sold on Mond being the future.

In terms of potential QB targets, there's Deshaun Watson (barring legal issues), Derek Carr, and Russell Wilson... all of whom would require a contract similar to Cousins. Carr and Wilson both have had down years, and who knows when Watson will play again.

As for Danielle Hunter, I personally think it makes the most sense to trade him. His market value is still high, and could be dealt for a high draft pick. There seems to have been a few bridges burnt with him as well, so unless the Vikings pony up when it's time to extend him, he'll likely walk anyhow. Trade him for a good draft pick, and free up some money for 2022.

The Vikings are also taking a $17 million cap hit on Thielen. Unfortunately, he should either be asked to restructure his contract or be released. I love the guy, and he most certainly is an all-time Vike, but he's 32 and hasn't had a 1,000 yard season since 2018. I don't think either will happen and he ends up playing out his contract, but freeing up that cap space could open a spot for a solid, young free agent WR.
