Are you licking the floor?I don’t like shopping for food in dirty, poorly lit warehouses so I prefer hyvee

I worked at East Euclid along with 4 others stores in the metro. You're right, that's BS. You'll see a ton of white trash there but it should be clean. Also, east Euclid had the best high school employees next to Indianola.HyVee changed their Cherry Cola, since then they have nothing i can't get at Fareway.
Years ago I asked why the store was always so dirty? The manager blamed the clientele. I told him that's strange because the E Euclid store is as clean as any store on the Westside.
Last time I set foot in a HyVee, the only person working the meat counter argued with a woman for over 10 minutes rather than wait on the other half dozen waiting for service. She asked to have two pieces of the same cut individually wrapped which he did but he printed off one receipt and taped them together with in. Finally I said sir do it or don't but you need to wait on the rest of us. Employee told me to wait my turn. I responded it's been my turn you ******* moron.Got to give it up for the Fareway meat counter! Beats Hy Vee and the service, at least in Ames, is so much better at Fareway. A great group of knowledgeable and helpful people working the meat counter in Ames!
Speaking of Hy-Vee, I stopped in at one of their smaller "Fresh Market" concept stores when I was in Nevada for Thanksgiving. Overall, I was impressed. It's about the size of a Fareway or an Aldi's, with a lot of it's own non-Hyvee off brand stuff. I now see some of that same brand making it's way into HyVees along side their Hyvee branded products.
They seem like a company that will throw pretty much anything up against the wall to see if it sticks. Some of it works, some of it bombs. But they're always trying.
I'm mostly a Walmart guy. But as grocers, they truly suck. If they ever figure things out, the competition is in trouble. But their prices absolutely blow Hyvee out of the water. Many of the items I buy are comparable, but many are 30-50% more. The sliced ham I buy a lot of is $6.49/lb at Hyvee versus $3.99. Not everything is cheap at Walmart though. I get most of my beef and pork at Sam's Club because of better quality and pricing.
Fareway, but its always strange having some high schooler walk you out to your car.
Obviously for the college kids stoned out of their gourd. Also not sure if this is in all Hyvee's but the central one in Ames remodeled and put a a candy shop thing in it.
I was annoyed to see they did that while getting rid of the bag your own candy, trail mix and nuts. Another overreaction to Covid I’m guessing. Also not sure if this is in all Hyvee's but the central one in Ames remodeled and put a a candy shop thing in it.

Basically the argument centered around she didn't specify and he wasn't willing to print two more labels.I shop both and like them for different reasons, but if I had to pick one it'd be Hy-Vee.
Hmmm... shopped multiple locations of Hy-Vee for decades and have never seen anything like this. They ask before they package it up how I want it every time for me. I've had them package the same cuts of meat all different sorts of ways, especially hamburger.
HyVee was toast then Covid saved them.FWIW, had a guy on the supply side tell me Kroger was going to buy HyVee. The HyVee TV ads are so bad you wonder who approves them. Wife buys all meat at Fareway & rest at HyVee. Walking by the HyVee meat counter, better hold your nose.
