Hy-Vee of 2021 compared to Hy-Vee of 10 years ago is awful. Hy-Vee compared to the alternatives is still the best. It just isn’t hands down the best anymore.

And another thing, with regard to Hy-Vee. Has anyone else noticed they got very stingy with their fuel savers since the pandemic started? It seems pretty difficult with a normal routine shopping list to even acquire any gas savings there anymore.

Hold my beer......
I like Hyvee and completely grew up with it over Fareway but the stores have grown to Walmart Target size and the "our house" commercials are so freaking self absorbed I'd boycott just for that. Plus I used to like that song and now it's basically ruined because it's played so much.
I like a grocery store where I can go in, get what i need and still have a good selection and that is Fareway now.
Now get off my lawn...... :)
I just don’t really like all the youths that are always in the store. Do they have to be there? Also I dont like self checkout. I don’t understand why there can’t be 12 registers manned at all times by full time adults and not by kids or robots.

I believe the north ankeny HyVee purposely puts beerv listed on sale but never changes the price in the system. Happens all the time, they fix the price on myreceipt, but how many others don't catch it?

I hit up that HyVee for beer and liquor a lot. I'll have to pay attention next time.

I assume they give it to you free?

This is like asking, “Harris Teeter vs Food Lion”.

I don’t suspect too many on here will get that. For those that do (maybe 1 or 2) , I still accidentally call Food Lion, Fareway every now and then.

FWIW, had a guy on the supply side tell me Kroger was going to buy HyVee. The HyVee TV ads are so bad you wonder who approves them. Wife buys all meat at Fareway & rest at HyVee. Walking by the HyVee meat counter, better hold your nose.

HyVee changed their Cherry Cola, since then they have nothing i can't get at Fareway.

Years ago I asked why the store was always so dirty? The manager blamed the clientele. I told him that's strange because the E Euclid store is as clean as any store on the Westside.

Karen alert.

I buy most of the groceries at Walmart. They have good prices and there milk is way cheaper than Hyvee or Fareway. Walmart's produce and meat sections are not very good. I like the meat counter at Fareway, and they tend to have some great deals on pop and beer. The problem with their beer deals is that the local Fareway rarely has the better beers in stock. (Exile, Sam Adams, and Big Grove show up in the ads, but not the stores) HyVee has some good deals, but in general prices are higher there. They do have a nice produce section.

KwikStar consistently has least expensive milk, eggs, butter and bananas.

Compared to east coast Stop and Shop. Hyvee blows them away. Although Market Basket is pretty good, just not continent to get to for the one close to me.

In general, it's Fareway for me, though I no longer live close to either. Fareway has the vastly superior meat counter (I don't care as much about seafood; salmon and shrimp make up about 95% of the seafood I eat, and they have that). For produce, Hy-Vee is better. But for the canned/dried/boxed goods, Fareway usually has the better prices.

Every once in awhile, I'd get annoyed by the whole being closed on Sundays. But I definitely don't mind them being closed on the holidays. I'm not religious, but my family still celebrates Christmas, and I've never liked how so many people in retail/service are forced to work during the holidays.
