I care, because I find it interesting how you guys think everything you have is “elite” and the best.

You can’t just say you have a good quarterback, he has to be a Heisman contender. Can’t just say you have decent fan support, it has to be “unreal”. Can’t just think you could compete in the B1G, but you’d win the west every year despite actually being 0-6 during the Campbell years vs 1 average B10 team.

It’s interesting to me. I’ve never seen it in another group.

You should pay a little more attention to the Hok fanbase then if this is not something you've seen before.

Want to personally thank Chris Williams and everyone at CF for the awesome job of nurturing and developing Cyclone Fanatic. Best thing that ever happened for Cyclone Athletics. Amount of Free content is massive. And I find it perfectly appropriate to fund the operations of CF with pop ups and premium info and board options. The amount needed to offer such a great site is not cheap. Complainers should just leave.

Thank you for Cyclone Fanatic. I very much appreciate and enjoy it. IMO a lot of the great things that have happened at Iowa State would not have happened without the influence of Cyclone Fanatic. The upgrades and rise in our programs coincide with the rise of CF. It is not coincidence. Thank you for your undying support and efforts.

Parts Unknown
ISU has a top 25 fanbase in attendance and probably top 30 in viewership once the TV numbers are crunched, for being a historically miserable team that went 7-5 and is also the second option historically in its small home state. Now that ISU is investing and growing and gaining casual fan market share in the state, it’s very attractive.

people in Iowa don’t really realize how rare it is for a state to be so college sports crazy, you don’t find this everywhere or even most places. And the right coach can turn it into a big recruiting advantage relative to the Colorados and Minnesotas that are pro sports markets all the way.

This doesn't hurt either. What the poster needs to realize is just how big of a hole this program has climbed out of. When Matt says "laughingstock" he means it

But through it all the ISU fans have attended games and lived and died with the team. That's ******* special.

Imagine not realizing everything you have is because you’re fortunate enough to play in the big ten west and then spouting off?

Everyone thinks their fan base is the best, yawn. And frankly Iowa fans are befuddled by the ISU basketball team turn around, frankly ISU and Iowa are both good brands and its absolutely unbelievable that this tiny state with hardly any P5 recruits has both its flagship universities find their way into 2 different major conference football championships in the last 2 years.

Take a young man through this room. Show him the very historic stadium. USC should never be down

Imagine removing Reggie Bush’s Heisman because boosters paid for his parents’ apartment in LA, but leaving O.J.’s trophy when everyone is pretty sure he stabbed his wife and the waiter to death. If I’m a member of the USC brass there is no way I want O.J. mentioned in that trophy museum.

Your life must really suck or is really boring to care this much as you outlined above. Go make some friends and do something more fun. Heck go celebrate with your own on being in the Big10 title game.

Everyone is like but Nebraska is the only team in the state but the state is a dead zone past Grand Island, Minnesota and Wisconsin have to compete with pro sports, Arkansas and Missouri lol, gobbled by the SEC and sent to the doldrums, Iowa and ISU are on national television all the time, talking ABC and FOX.

I’m just trying to understand why every ISU fan thinks their fanbase is somehow special. You have decent support for being the 2nd choice in a small state. But I don’t really see anything special or “unreal” about it.
I would guess it's the same reason the EIU fan base is so excited about backing into the championship game, talking about going to the playoff, when they did not play the best three teams in the East division, and their two best wins of the season were vs 7-5 Penn. State at home and 7-5 ISU team on the road.

even if you succeed at the blue blood, there are very few coaches that last any length of time

recently, I can think of nick saban (maybe dabo, but I don't really consider clemson a blue blood)

have any other coaches recently had a 10+ year career at a top school?

edit: oh yeah I forgot about brian kelly at notre dame (bob stoops too, but he kind of got forced out a little after his last 11-2 season)
Mark Richt, Dabo Sweeney, Kelly and Stoops that you mentioned.

Then the next generation of Riley, Day, Harbaugh, etc.

actually it’s the mentality that thinks that waving at sick kids for 30 seconds makes them somehow more noble, while they ignore contractors and medical staff not getting paid

ISU 2nd choice?

That is harsh when you rank the State
1. UNI
2. ISU
3. UI

Nobody here is saying UNI is above ISU or Iowa and Iowa is the third choice in the state. That's just crazy talk.

They hate us for the very same reasons we hate them. In the end, the fanbases (and most anywhere) are very similar, but the difference is Iowa fans have never had to deal with Iowa State fans being loud. Now they hate us more than ever, and it's because they've had to put up with an obnoxious fanbase in their backyard. We've dealt with that for 40 years.

none of those "next generation" guys have been there for 10 years yet and we're hearing rumblings that day and riley could be out (although who knows maybe it's just agent contract renegotiation tactics)

harbaugh was on the hot seat before this season (and if he loses the big 10 championship, maybe he is again lol)

it is possible to be a top coach at a blue-blood, but it's very difficult and probably less than 10% chance to have any kind of long career -- way better chance of flaming out or getting fired because you have a "horrible" 9 win season one year

whereas if you're at a program like isu/ksu/oklahoma state/iowa, you have a lot more leeway, control over the program, and job security
