Official SDSU Meltdown Thread

Posted the same thing in the football forum. What you have written here is exactly why ISU Athletics has the lousy reputation and tradition that it does. We continually write off year after year after year. How LONG does it take to put a decent BB team on the court? In a country with 10,000 high schools is it really that impossible to find 4-5 players who want to play ball at a high major school.

I am done with patience and excuses. These people are paid salaries that most of us can only dream of to produce WINNING teams. Start winning or find yourself another line of work. All of us in the 'real' world deal with these same pressures daily. Why do these people get pass after pass for failure?

Agree completely. The right coach can win here and do it early. To think we need to be "patient" for 5 or 6 years to even field a team that can finish in the upper half of the conference is nuts.

Yes. Rebuilding a basketball team of 11 players (with only maybe 9 consistently seeing playing time) is a lot different than rebuilding a football team of 80 or so players.

Yeah, I think the long shot we had at Harrison might have gone to no chance. I think he wants to be a clone, but how the can he go to a squad that is showing no signs of going anywhere. Merry Christmas UNC, you might have locked yourself up a future lottery pick with this debacle tonight.

I see. So you want them to wave a magic wand, and just "start winning".

Maybe it's because their job depends on eighteen year old kids? Or because there were problems they inherited, rather than created?

This program has been in flux for a long time now, you realize. Since Tinsley and Fizer left. There are no quick fixes. It just doesn't happen.

When then do we get to have any expectations? When? Year 6, Year 7??? I know. Our job as a fan is simply to shut up, fork over the dough and yell, Go Cyclones at every opportunity. Many corporations fire CEO after CEO until they find one who can get the job done. I have not called for GM's head and still think he will get year 4.

I am just curious as to when we are allowed to have any expectations in either FB or BB? Last time I checked they don't give out medals for participation in the Big 12. If all we are concerned about is stability, maybe we should just forego the pretense of competing in a high major conference and find a more amenable fit.

Missing the point folks. We don't need a magic wand.

We need a system that the kids want to play in and some how some way for the players to play solid b-ball and the wins will come.

We have the fans. We have the money. We don't need a miracle. we need a system that will compete on the floor night in and night out with drive and enthusiasm and fundamentals.

Indeed. So who said anything about 5 or 6 years?

Note that right now, we have one scholarship player who has been here more than a year and a half. Oh, make that one player.

My biggest concern with him was not on court execution but recruiting...my concerns were clearly bass-ackwards.

Why are so many people high on GMac's recruiting? Yes, I am excited about Colvin and Gilstrap because they are 4-star recruits, but other than Brackins, GMac hasn't brought in any other highly rated recruits. And given that Craig has played well BELOW expectations (he might be the most inconsistent player to ever lace up his shoes for ISU), it's clear that ISU does not have the athletes right now to compete in the Big 12. Craig's athletic ability is negated by his poor decisions. He doesn't ever throw the ball back outside when he gets double-teamed.

The program has been in flux due to poor upper management (coaching). If we were talking football, I might be more inclined to agree, but this is basketball where we need two good players, and then a small handful of role players to be successful in any conference.

This may be hard to believe, but even Johnny, Tim and Larry had nights when their teams came out flat. It happens.

Last thing then I'm going to bed - Do we have plays for throwing the ball in bounds? It seems like everybody runs around and then they throw the ball to halfcourt.

We have fans when the students aren't there?!!?!? Could have fooled me.

:jimlad:

But seriously . . . :mask:

One more note on this whole 'patience' theory. ISU got punked by a first year coach in Mark Phelps at Drake and a 2nd year coach in Todd Lickliter at Iowa. Also, I believe that this is maybe SDSUs 2nd or 3rd year of D-1 BB. Why is the passage of time going to make the problem disappear?
