Hy-Vee-What's up?

Way back in the day the WDM Hy-Vee had employees grab umbrellas and walk customers to their car.

You could buy a suit there and get a home loan. Mail a letter or eat some average Chinese food.

But last time I went (special trip for potato chips) workers seemed nice enough, but I had to scan and bag my stuff. They've done away with drive up service too.

If I didn't hate Aldi so goddam much I'd probably stay away from Hy-Vee now.
What's wrong with Aldi?

Could be, but each store is run autonomously, so the store in particular that is hiring at $10/hour for sure sucks.

I don’t know how autonomous it is. The guy stocking the soap bombs right by the pharmacy said corporate dictated where they had to put products

What's crazy to me is that the linked article says the new Grimes store is *smaller* than the one in Cedar Falls. I assume they mean the one at College Square.
Fun fact, this is where I met my wife. She worked in the Deli and at the time I worked in Seafood. I worked there in high school and throughout most of college. I actually worked night stock with Kurt Warner. That CF store use to be one of the most profitable and a lot of big Hy-Vee people worked at that store including Ron Pearson.

I also met my wife at that hyvee. Probably 20 or more years after Kurt worked there though

This morning getting coffee at the Hy-Vee gas station on Merle Hay in Johnston they had a sign they were hiring and wage was 15 an hour full-time and 13 an hour part-time. I got the impression they were hiring for the grocery store and the gas station.

Yeah I am just guessing the store I am referencing in Dubuque just hasn't caught up with the times yet to be starting people off at $10/hour. Location may have something to do with it, but I can't imagine cost of living being too radically different between Dubuque/DSM-Ankeny Metro. My guess is they change it quick, considering they are conducting walk in interviews and probably don't want to be doing that forever.

Median home cost in Dubuque is 125k less than Ankeny.

Also, out in rural Iowa there are a lot of stores that don't even have an instore maanager. Hyvee has comsolidated that position to oversee multiple stores in the area. Ever since they did this customer service has went to hell.

What I don't understand is in some of these areas there is also no way to contact certain management. I needed to contact the HR person for the Carroll location, and she runs HR for 3 other stores in neighboring towns. Somehow she has no voicemail or email address, so you just have to pray she's randomly there the day and time you call.

I sincerely doubt they don't have an email. But apparently they won't give it to you.

I know someone in HyVee HR personally so if you really need to contact someone, let me know.

Went to the new Grimes Hy-Vee tonight for a few things that we needed last minute and while I did not check out the entire store what I did see by basically going around the outside aisles and departments was pretty cool. It has a very modern and high tech feel to it with all the digital signage and design of the store. Lost of space to navigate the store too, they didn't just cram everything into every square foot they could so didn't have a cramped feel to it. Actually ran into a guy that I worked with in the corporate IT department when I interned there 20 years ago and he says their IT department has grown substantially since I worked there and he thinks this new store is something other chains in the region and country are going to make a point to come visit to see how some of the new concepts Hy-Vee is trying out in this store will work. Really looking forward to having this store less than a mile from my house to shop at.
