Summer Roster Heights and Weights Updated

Was snooping around Hawkeyereport and saw they updated their summer roster as well. The thing that stuck out to me was how much smaller their OLine is across the board from ours. I think I counted maybe 4 guys over 300 and we have like 20. Each program probably has it's ideal standards, but I found it interesting in terms of a p5 offensive line.
Aside from Wirfs and Linderbaum, they haven’t had (ahem) the best luck recruiting OL lately. The ‘20 and ‘21 signing classes were basically resets for their OL room—and the former was all “projects”.

And Linderbaum was a DL out of HS. Justin Britt is the only real exception.

I feel like Jeff Myers has done a great job integrating talent in every recruiting class since he was hired as full time OL Coach. I believe that started with the Treiber, Hufford, Simmons and Remsburg class, though he might get credit for Joey Ramos, Trevor Downing and Zach Ross as well.

He has 6.5 sacks in 2019 playing the Mike.
He was tied for tops in the nation halfway through the season and then suffered a minor injury and didn't get another sack the rest of the year, if I remember correct. I remember some of those sacks coming on spy situations where the downfield coverage was excellent and Vance blitzed after a few seconds.

CMC also mentioned at one point—after the Fiesta Bowl, I think—kind of offhand, that Vance was one of the “half of the team” that missed major conditioning time in the preseason due to COVID protocols, so it took him a while to get up to speed.

Whatever you want to say about Iowa, having a lack of OL talent isn't one of them. Their weights along their OL are generally smaller than a lot of teams. I am also convinced they list some of their OL lighter on purpose.

What would that accomplish?

Iowa is one of only a handful of teams in P5 football that still attempts to "block" the defense.

There is a lot of guys gaining a lot of weight! Hopefully it’s all good weight lol the new strength coach seems to be paying off

I’m quite certain it’s good weight. My only question is just how accurate the numbers are.

“All divisible by 5” isn’t how they usually post them.

Maybe they should put everybody in full game gear before taking height and weight, too. After all, they don't play barefoot in boxers.

Uhh…no. They’re weighing them, against an objective standard.

it’s like with basketball players. You want them in sock feet to know how tall they are—not them and their shoes.

Seriously. Some morons were wearing shoes with 2” soles at the NBA combine, just to seem taller.

I don't think its worth getting hung up on. I weigh myself every morning first thing to minimize fluctuations and I still fluctuate up to 3 to 4 pounds depending on how I ate, exercised, hydrated, etc. the previous day and I am nowhere near the size of these guys. I wouldn't be surprised if they fluctuate 10 pounds or more depending on similar factors. Rounding it to the closest 5 lbs is probably as accurate as giving an exact number anyways.

Or maybe they should have new weights posted every day. Can't leave Saturday's weight up there if Tuesday's weight is different. That wouldn't be accurate.

There's not really a difference between listing someone at 218 or at 220. These guys can gain and lose 5+ pounds daily without even thinking about it.

Doesn’t everyone at the NBA combine measure barefoot? What’s it matter what shoes they were wearing before and after?

I think you misunderstood what I meant by “accurate”. I meant “not some IT guy making a guesstimate”.
