I had no problem with TJ not going after him. Nothing against the kid, he might turn out to be very good, but this is TJ's team, and he understands that the clock is ticking as far are getting things turned around. Maybe he thought the kid would take 2 years to get on the court and didn't want to wait that long. Last year's team was a complete train wreck, getting blown out in a lot of games. If they were not so bad, the kid looks more appealing.

Landing Tamin and Eli King for 2022 in addition to Tyrese Hunter coming in 2021 justified TJ's decision to move on from Nunn imo. That's two true PG's and a combo guard for the future of the backcourt.

THIS team was never 0-18. That's hugely important.

Agreed...and team really wasn't all that far away from a 6-12 or 8-10 season. They were basically in every game excluding Tx Tech, @ Kansas, and the post covid start up ... and usually found a new way to lose. Had national champs on the wire on the road.

Everyone wants to just say 0-18... but really weren't that many pieces from 9-9 if you actually watched the games (despite what was a very poor and thin roster).

Basketball doesn't need a ton of pieces for a rebuild, and TJ gets the perfect opportunity to refresh quickly with the transfer rules. Not saying 'expect' him to win in year one, but think we will be able to tell if it was a good hire or not pretty quickly.

Count me in. I wanted TJ the last time we hired Prohm and I still am on board with him. Lets get moving now to rebuild this thing!!!!

Man, I remember when some brave gentleman made the post above and how unpopular a thought that was at the time.......... Wait....... that was me!!!! Who knew? :)

I still am in disbelief that some fans thought he should be a Cyclone. He played and one of the top prep schools in the country. He had maximum exposure with minimal interest. Otz recruiting his teammate to UNLV. So any person with a brain should have realized if he was worth a scholorship to Iowa State. UNLV would have been hard after him

This offer list was a slap in the face to Hilton Magic and Cyclone Nation?

That's missing an Arizona St and a Mississippi St offer.

Look at Haliburton's offer list and it's pretty much the same. Do you think he wasn't worthy of an offer?

Not sticking up for Prohm but he did have a reputation of identifying under the radar PGs. And definitely not comparing Nunn to Haliburton but just pointing out that their offer lists were similar and Nunn could be another under the radar guy...and he had P5 offers you didn't list.

You think TJ will have them as a #2 or #3 seed I'm the NCAA tourney in less than 24 months? That's some lofty expectations that I think will be impossible.

Hoiberg was a 9 seed his 2nd year after he brought in all thst talent. If TJ can follow Hoibergs trajectory I'll be happy.

As far as next year, I don't think 7 wins is asking too much, and if things fall right I don't think 9-9 and being a bubble team is unreasonable. I'm not expecting NCAA but if that happens it will be a pleasant surprise.

Lon Kruger is gone, Tech lost Beard. Huggy Bear is 67 and in poor health plus hates the transfer thing. He may be retiring soon. Those #3 and #4 spots are open in the conference. I'm not a believer in Moser at OU as his style may not translate to P5 success.

The 2016 Sweet 16 team went 10-8 in conference play and got a 4 seed. 2014 team went 11-7 in the Big 12 and got a 3 seed. Tournament selection committee has really bumped our seeding coming off a Big 12 title ship. If Steve Prohm can win 2, why can't Otz carry on the tradition.

2023 Yes. With Otz's recruiting/transfer history, near 5 star PG, super senior guards with success at the P5 level, Foster and Jaz would be seniors or super seniors in 2023 and Foster would be a RSSoph/Junior. That is A TON of experience. GO look up the analytics on UNI's rebounding. Coach Green is bringing that to ISU. TJ and Blount are far better 3 point shooting teachers if you look at their team's prior performance.

2024 could have a Junior near 5 star PG, Sophomores Lipsey and King, RS JR/Senior Enaruna and Foster. All are likely top 75 players once scouts re-evaluate Lipsey post COVID and ACL recovery.

Talent, experience, coaching history and a DOMINANT home court help our case. You also never know if KU is ineligible for 2023-2024 March Madness participation. Possibility isn't 0%.

A lot of what if's.. And maybe I'm drunk on TJ transfer cool-aid. But this team has SOO much talent. Reminds me of the 2019 team right now. If we can get a player like Enaruna to reach 80% of his potential. That's scary what 2023-2024 could look like

ASU and MSU only offered because it was April and teams get desperate to fill holes on the spring for the following summer. Notice he didn't sign with either of them and had to sign with an A-10 team

I would certainly like him but, for some reason, I feel less concerned it might be a problem if we do not. Why? TJ has proven he'll find the horses. If not him, then somebody else.
Yeah I’d just be especially excited if we landed Karaban because he could create similar mismatches as Daum and Niang, so I feel confident Otz can maximize him.

The 2021 team was #286 in turnovers, #329 in defensive rebounding and #347 in free throw rate... Yet were still in about half of their games down to the under 4 TV timeout..

Otz's career average ranking for those 3 metrics (I'll even exclude his GREAT SDSU teams since some will just say DAUM) TO: 209, rebounding: 45 and free throw: 203.. Include SDSU time and it's #125, #56, #93

You probably win 6+ games more with last years roster just using Otz's career averages on those 3 moetrics alone

I had no problem either, just the optics

The biggest difference I've seen thus far between the TJ era and the Hoiberg era is that out of the gate TJ is recruiting at a higher level than Fred. And while many were knocking TJ on his lack of HC experience, he's light years ahead of where Fred was. This doesn't mean much in terms of X's and O's, but in terms of building a culture, discipline, and getting the most out of players, it's huge.

I think for those reasons we should expect to see a faster turnaround with a higher ceiling. If it doesn't happen as fast as I hope or expect, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it because TJ is a winner and has that right combo of energy and discipline. It is very rare that those people in life fail.

As others have said, we were in many of those games last year. We don't have to get very much better to climb to the middle of the league with the turmoil going on in other programs. With more intestinal fortitude along with more talent, it is more than attainable, even if it's going to look ugly at times.

I think TJ is going to have a pretty long leash. Pollard doesn't fire people at the first hiccup. Goodness knows he gave Prohm and Rhoads second, third, and fourth chances until they completely crashed and burned.

TJ could afford to take long-term development prospects at this point if he felt they would pay off in 2-3 years. He has that luxury. It just appears that he doesn't have to with the way he has rebuilt the roster the last month.

The main concern about Jayden Nunn was his Dad played with Grayer at Flint and Monte has a reported long relationship with the Nunn family.. He apparently did not fitTJs vision . Its the head coaches prerogative to build a team that fits his style of play. TJ is bringing in talent.
