The team was just kind of in this 'mode' where everything was running smoothly.

The ability to guard was also something else.

Haven't seen anything like it since and likely won't.

$5 seats for my wife, my 5 year old, and me to see Fizer dominate Mimm and top 5 TX was a memory I’ll never forget. They weren’t great seats, but that didn’t matter.
This. I didnt have season tix then, but realized sometime in january that this team was off the charts special. Ridiculous they had to fire sale to sell out.

I think went to about 4 games with those $5 tix, even brought my kids. They were 7 and 4 but got to see the Fizer over Mihm dunk from the absolutely top row.

Now those kids are both ISU grads!

Also a great headline in the CR Gazette prior to the Iowa game comparing Jaacks to Fizer :)

Tinsley dribbling. How the team just complimented each other so well! Pounding UCLA after everyone told us we were going to lose!

I had forgotten how "hot" UCLA was considered going into that game. Not surprising after UCLA thumped Maryland by 35(!). It was awesome to crush UCLA after losing 3 previous tournament meetings ('89, '93 and, the most disheartening, '97). I was glad to bury their a**.

(Word-geek note: "complemented." :) )

Only 3 sell-outs that year: Iowa, Kansas, and Oklahoma State (Senior Day/Johnny Orr Day).

Was lucky enough to be a student then. Waited outside Hilton for seats to the KU game. They let us into the outer concourse early because it was so cold. This allowed for a brief encounter between my group and Larry, as he passed us coming up one of the stairwells into the concourse.

Got seats in one of the first few rows on the end near the KU bench. Which was perfect because the sign I brought read "ATTENTION JAYHAWKS: PLEASE BOARD THE BUS. MR. FIZER WILL BE TAKING YOU TO SCHOOL NOW."

Second favorite memory, after the W, was actually seeing Roy, Collision, Hinrich and the KU bench actually turning to read the sign as I held it high during team intros. Great time to be a Cyclone.

That was rotating seat assignment days for student tickets (random draw for game blocks in balcony, parquet and arena circle). Why were you waiting in line before the game to get a seat? If you were a student and had season tickets, you already had one...

Fizer over Chenowith!

Didn’t everyone know Kantrail would dump it off to him?

Seems like Mike Nurse was lights out against UCLA.

Can you imagine a CF reaction to Drake game? Yikes!

It's like a Kennedy assassination moment for me. I remember I was back home visiting family from a weekend or holiday at ISU and we went to this tiny little dive bar & grill in some small town in NW Iowa that I had never been to before or since, I remember every visual detail of the place and where the TV was that I was watching in horror. Rest of my family was enjoying a meal and a drink and I was just completely shell shocked trying to imagine how it was possible.

I also remember the MSU game that way, but also a whole lot of amazing games at Hilton and road games on TV watching with my roomates. I bet I have as many memories of that season as my other 25 years of ISU basketball fandom combined. My roomates and I have an awesome photo with LE at the ceremony where they had all the combined mens and womens Big 12 trophies from the year. I should see if I can find it and post it.

I got red and yellow knee high socks to look like Marcus Fizer (even though he didn’t wear those, 8 year old me thought it was cool) and tried to dunk on my laundry hamper basketball hoop like him. Likewise, I balled when Eustachy got ejected from that Elite Eight game and Michigan State’s fans acting like they earned the win and was the better team. That game still pisses me off over 20 years later.

Love all these memories. Mine is the S16 game vs UCLA. I remember the USA Today had a preview and they picked UCLA because of their athleticism and the way they play. We come out and run their asses off the floor. I really thought we were going to the final 4.

Not exactly sure.
Going to the first two rounds in MPLS. Between games having a guy tell me that ISU had this unbelievable shooter from the twin cities coming next year. I didn’t follow message boards back then. (If they were around?). Struggling early in one of the games and nurse lets lose a shot from about 28’ that pulled out the other teams guards and Fizer went nuts then.

Right. Rotating blocks of seats, but not assigned seats. Students still wanted the best seats possible. Me and my buddies certainly weren't alone- there were hundreds waiting outside that day.
