Best memory was during the final home game against OSU. At one point play was held up for a TV timeout and I know the decibel level did not go down (much) the entire break.

Saddest moment is likely everyone's that season. I realize a lot of things still needed to happen, but that game was the championship that year. If ISU gets past MSU, I couldn't see them losing to Wisky or Florida.

Not sure about one thing in particular but the toughness of those teams every night was something I'll never forget. Tenacious D. It must have been hell playing us.

I was a student at ISU that year and to this day I still do not recall a season that was as fun to watch and be around as that one. We whupped up on Iowa that year, started the game on a huge tear and when Iowa finally called timeout Hilton was so loud Mike Nurse was covering his ears on the way to the bench. Fizer over Mihm is probably the loudest I have ever heard Hilton. Just loved that team, so well rounded and dominate. If Fizer had the ball in the paint you knew there was a good chance of him scoring and watching Horton and Nurse pull up from way behind the 3 point line was great. Tinsley was a magician with the ball and one of the most entertaining PG I have ever seen. Remember going up to Minneapolis for the 1st 2 rounds of the tournament then was in KC at an alumni association game watch for the Elite 8 game before the women were about to play in the Sweet 16 that year which was electric up until the double foul in the final minutes. I remember everyone mad as hell when Larry got tossed and people saying "give em hell Larry!" and other fun things because we were all frustrated in the moment just like Larry was.

Felt so fortunate to attend ISU when I did from 98-02 as we had some historic moments in athletics in general. I can say we never lost to Iowa in FB and that even counts the extra fall semester I took in 02 when we won our 5th straight after snapping the long losing streak my freshman year. Going to the bowl game in AZ was a blast too. Both of our basketball teams had great teams and we also had Cael Sanderson then too.

One of my co-workers got married the day/night of the Elite 8 game. Of course I had to go to the wedding and the reception. There was a small TV in the kitchen of the reception venue, and many of us kept sneaking in there to keep tabs on the game. When Shirley got called for his fifth (non-)foul, we all exploded in anger....and a whole bunch of the others came running into the kitchen, sure that someone was getting murdered, or worse.

And I specifically remember Izzo saying he didn't blame Eustachy for blowing up, in fact I think he said he probably would have done the same thing.

Tinsley averaged 4 turnovers a game. To put in perspective Monte Morris averaged 1 turnover per game.

I must have been at the same wedding. Tiny little Tv maybe 19 inch if that. I think the bride and groom were starting to get pissed everyone trying to watch that game. Was in Fort Dodge. I agree with what you said 98-02.

I think those Texas and Okie St games at Hilton where we knew we were finally going to win a conference title (although we had a couple road games left to end the year).

They needed to win both to get to the finish line.

ISU and UT were both 10-2 coming in.
ISU and OSU were both 11-2 for their matchup.

I remember going to Chicago sports bars and having the following conversation 12 times...(remember, this is pre flat screen tvs and HD).

"Do you have ESPN Full court?"
"What?"
"I want to watch Iowa State"
"Ohio State?"
"No, Iowa State"
"Hawkeyes?"
"No Iowa State basketball, they're on ESPN Full court - do you guys have it?"

I was at Kirkwood during the day and delivering pizzas by night back then. If it was a Saturday night game I was listening on the radio, for sure, and the week night games I was more than likely working too. Pete and Eric were watching for me.

Remember when hand-check fouls weren't a thing? Damn I miss that.

Handcheck Tinsley all you wish, you're still not getting the ball.

The one where he goes to the floor with three guys surrounding him, keeps dribbling, and gets it to Shirley is amazing. I think he was fouled at least double digits on that possession. So fun to watch that team.

Nurse emerging as an elite shooter. Kantrail. I loved that guy. And he was a legit PG in his own right, there wasn't much of a drop off when Tinsley needed breather. Fizer. No words. The a** pounding of UCLA in the S16 after the media and their fans (some of them came to our boards) said we had no chance against their athleticism.

This isn't specific to that season and is still very much a thing.

I just started asking for the channel at one point.

I am starting to think that none of my memories of this are real.. Likely false memories implanted by my makers so I won't know I am a synthetic.

Larry getting tossed. It was both justified and necessary. Took me a decade to get over that game.
