Anyone else hearing that JP has already decided Prohm is coming back?

I appreciate this perspective and will challenge myself to do the same, no matter who may be the next coach.

I could go either way with with Fred....and would be fascinated to see how Hilton would react first game (as some on here would boo maybe? lol). But i do how cool it was when he came out and the crowd would react....IF he would be hired, he'd need to have a VERY honest opening presser "Ok, here's the deal...i wanted to be an NBA coach...it didn't work out....I also don't mind recruiting....but maybe didn't go all in the last year or two....and sorry about UAB......also.....yes, i said Lincoln was "home" cause my grandpa coached there...but i used to walk 5 blocks to hilton to be the ball boy (insert other overtold stories, lol).....Carol and I are grown adults, we dont' mind living here....we will have hilton rockin....and Georges will be a assistant when his career is over....also, you know you are happy to have another Hoi-burger at Applebees?"

Why? Just do the normal coachspeak PR stuff. Say something like it's time to rebuild his home program, or even less.
If people want him to apologize for UAB, they're way too full of themselves.

Exactly. Fred doesn't owe us ****. He had the most sustained success ISU basketball has ever seen. He left a stacked team for the next coach. The NBA came calling for double the money. That's plenty for me...I don't care if Carol likes living in Ames and he certainly doesn't need to tell me if she does/doesn't.

Don’t know about the game, but pollard should ask if frosted tips will be part of the program moving forward. Gotta have a thorough vetting process

Tarleton? I saw him off had chance when he was with Mcmurrey and then when Little Rock came up I was surprised to hear his name. Just really liked the way he holds himself and his attitude.

He’s a great great coach. He’s also a true Texan.

I don’t think Fred owes us an apology for anything lol. The dude wanted to coach in the NBA. It’s not like he went to Kansas or Iowa and became their head coach. Had he done that I’d say screw him but he doesn’t need to apologize for being the Bulls head coach and he sure doesn’t need to apologize for the UAB game. Lol that’s ridiculous.

Nostalgia is a strange thing. This happens every coaching search - some people wanted Sage Rosenfels or Seneca Wallace to be the head football coach to succeed Paul Rhoads. Some people are advocating for Marcus Fizer to replace Prohm.

Fred may get some excitement but, again, with the dollars required to go get him - I'd rather get someone better.

That said, I'm with you on your first sentence. I'll be excited for ANYONE because we have no hope right now for winning basketball.
But we’re not talking about a former player who is not involved with coaching lol we’re talking about the current head coach of Nebraska. I agree that talking about Fizer as a coach is ridiculous.

The UAB game was horrific and perhaps a product of some supposed dysfunction of that group, but especially in the true modern era of the last 10 or so years a 14 over a 3 is nothing new.

14 over 3 21 times in 34 tournaments since expansion to 64, a little more than once every two seasons. Six times since 2010, so slightly more frequent recently.

(That doesn't make it any easier to swallow when it happens to your team, naturally. :) )

What says Hoiberg returning for part deux is going work?

The market inefficiency of transfers isn’t what it used to be and was beginning to lose its power in the twilight of Hoiberg’s last ISU stint.

The formula for success (transfers, free flowing offense that captitalizes on the easy transition pts) simply isn’t as powerful as it used to be.....which is a model Prohm has tried to emulate without much subsequent reinvention. Lack of success at NU provides evidence that Hoiberg et al. are not coaching above their weight either. Heck Tim Miles certainly did more in 2 years at NU than Hoiberg has.

Other than blind nostalgia stoking the flames of a former, I don’t understand the appeal. Seems like fansite delusion.
Fred was almost to the point where we would have been able to move past relying on transfers and start to grab insane high school kids. Rumor has it that Top 5 recruit Cheick Diallo was ready to commit to ISU but asked Fred if he'd be at ISU next year and Fred couldn't say yes so Diallo went to Kansas.

The Adidas money probably didn't help ISU's cause either ;)

I figure someone else has said this, but there's no mistaking that we ran into a buzzsaw of a schedule this year. That's not to say we haven't had some bad losses.

That's what used to be said about ISU football.

Then, ISU football got good.

Oh, look, schedule's not as much of an issue for ISU football.
