Anyone else hearing that JP has already decided Prohm is coming back?

Nothing says anything is going to work.
Anything says nothing is going to work.

So people are really just excited because this coach has been successful here before and are nostalgic for the return of the prodigal son? That doesn’t seems like a pragmatic appeal.

p.s. I look at hires in terms of risk and return on investment. I am just not seeing either of those boxes checked on a Hoiberg hire.

it’s fun, right? I mean Cat the usual angry guy is downright pleasant right now. I’m having a grand time thinking that people believe Gunner’s grandma ********. Or that one guy that keeps claiming Hoiberg would have come back 2 years ago if only prohm hadn’t won the big 12 tournament. Or the people that think if we just throw 5 million at the problem that we will get Tony ******* Bennett.

We're getting Tony ******* Bennett?

Noice.

I REALLY hope somebody's grandma isn't pulling a big donors chain on this one!

I remember when I semi helped to start the Mike Ditka rumor to Iowa State. Larry Cotlar legit asked him about it and I died laughing when I heard that.

What coaching search was it when we were convincing ISU students to go stake out the airport? AND THEN THEY DID THAT.

The profile for next coach needs to be an up and coming mid major HC to with several years of experience as a P5 assistant. You want a guy who understands the highest level and has some experience as HC.

ehh...that’s what I thought too. But I think the “he’s not fred” hangover might last longer than one coach. It won’t be as bad. But it’ll be there.

The problem with Prohm is not that Prohm isn’t Fred, it’s that Prohm is a really bad basketball coach and ruined this program

It has nothing to do with Fred. People just want a competent coach.

Fancy restaurants are for dorks. Food is just fuel for me, except for pizza. Pizza is a delicacy that I savor. Casey’s is all the way to Dayton now. I’ll probably drive the 2.5 Hr. round trip next week at some point.
Thank you. I’ll make a few things and I’m pretty good at it, but I really can’t stand self proclaimed foodies.
Probably because during lockdown my kids got into cooking a little. Eventually they would be like “I don’t know what to make” and I’d be all “There’s like 20 pounds of meat, a variety of vegetables with every vitamin and mineral known to man in this house. Jam something in your gut and go back out and get some more ball handling work in.”

God damn foodies.

That was peak message board. Must-read type stuff. And it was 99% bull.
I still have fond memories prior to the Chiz hire when my old company’s owner that thought he was tight with JP cane in to the office to let everyone know that Harbaugh was the next coach at ISU.

Yeah, and if you grew up around the Ankeny area back then.......depending on which way the wind was blowing....you knew there was chemical facility nearby. That more than likely couldn't get started in today's regulation world.

Did he ever have a facility in Ankeny? I know he has a big facility in St Joe, Mo I think.

If Steve comes back and makes the ncaa tourney next year I don’t think it puts me in a different camp than I am in today. Like the damage done is pretty much long term basketball trauma. Can’t start to get over it until you get a clean break and refresh.

Didn't that come really close to happening? I thought I heard it was almost a done deal but Harbaugh couldn't keep his mouth shut and leaked the news.

I'll be honest - I never understood the FH haters after he left. I wanted him to stay too, but he clearly wanted to try his hand in the NBA. He's a former player for many years, plus front office worker and scout. This is a given. Why wouldn't you want to coach a bunch of people who can actually play at the highest level, and by the way you don't have to recruit?

Didn't work out for him ultimately and he came back to college. Maybe he had a change of heart. Things happen - people change all the time in their lives.

I'd welcome him back and see what he can do again. Hopefully if he came back, it would be good things. And yeah, no - we aren't getting Thad Matta or Bielien or something like that. Maybe when Fred left it's more of a reality but uh, no. Not happening.

Obligatory do not want. Not 6-10

I feel like Pollard’s short list has one name on it. If there is donor money available to cover the Prohm and UNLV buyouts, then the short list will not need revisited.

Will it work? Who knows. For every Campbell, you have 5 Prohms (probably more like 10). It is why the Hoiberg talk is so enticing.
