Looks like a bigtime hire to me.

He's from Florida and has worked in Texas. Hopefully he's got some solid recruiting connections in both states.
His college coaching experience was all in WI, IL, and IN, so I would guess his ties are more to the Chicago region, and upper Midwest.

It's also interesting to note that the Texans intended to keep him on as part of Culley's incoming staff.

I can't see his name without remembering this cheap shot

I remember that one too. The play was beyond over. Could have ended his career.
The next day the B12 did an apology to ISU but never penalized the TX player.
Story of our life.

I always thought Mack Brown was a pretty decent guy but I lost all respect for him after that. He was asked about the cheap shot and said something along the lines of his guy was playing hard through the whistle. Absolute cop out. Between that and the screw job on the non fumble, that whole night pretty much sucked.

Congrats to Coach Broomfield and welcome home! Very cool to have a Cyclone in the fold in such an important position.

I'm remembering a goal line play. Was that it?

After the fact, I think Mack changed course too right?

A lot of those Rhoads era players are in coaching. Broomfield obviously. But Jacques Washington is as well. Roosevelt Maggit is. Jeremiah George was at Texas.

Maybe that’s pretty common but it seems like a lot and that’s all I know from Twitter.

Also, Jeremiah George ripped that ball out cleanly, should have just finished the run all the way to the end zone, but either way, he and Rhoads beat Texas that day.

Yeah we stuffed their RB on the goal line with under 5 minutes left in the game and we were up a few points. JG ripped the ball out and was probably about 5 yards down the field before the refs blew the ball dead and just gave it to Texas. It would've been a TD and we would've won.

Yes, the Jeremiah George strip fumble that was ruled down by contact.

Are you saying Brown actually did call out the player? If so I missed it.
I feel like Mack finally saw replays and angles with it and wasn't happy but didn't do much other than just admit that.

I thought they ended up suspending the kid for a game after it blew up but I could be remembering it wrong.

Edit: Just looked it up and he didn’t get suspended at all. They made him film an insincere apology and that was it.

Closer to 50 yards downfield than 5, if I remember right.
Someone post the video.

Maybe so. That's kind of like a kid apologizing to another kid after you make them.

Mack was dead man walking at that point. If not for the non call on the fumble they wouldn't have let him on the bus out of Ames that night.

Yes! I was just mentioning college coaches but that’s true.

Also grant Mahoney is at some tiny school in the Dakotas. And Austin Flynn has coached some in college, I think.

I used to see Austin in Grandview gear around DSM.
