It’s going to take years. Quite frankly there are only 3 players on this team that would be in the rotation (Top 9) for a NCAA Tournament squad. If any of those three transfer then you have to start completely from nothing. It’s a minimum 2-3 year rebuild at this point.

Here is my dream scenario, and the only reason why you fire him before the season is over. You could hire somebody like Matta or somebody who currently isn't a head coach. There are currently no rules governing contact with recruits if you aren't employed. You get in touch with Matta right now, negotiate his hiring. (Similar to Huggy at KSU). You have Matta recruiting like crazy for this offseason both in the portal and with high school recruits. You hire him ASAP after the season to get kids to sign on the line that is dotted and basically recruit an entirely new team and try to hang on to Hunter.

Otherwise, I agree with you, it's a very tough rebuild and it's going to be really tough on the new coach. McD wasn't a good coach here, that really can't be debated, but taking over a roster with basically nobody on it is tough to overcome unless you're just a crack recruiter.

I'm lacking the energy to do the research myself, but I bet you could go back over the last 5 years and you could not find a new coaching hire who was handed a better situation than Steve.

I don't have the stat in front of me but it was said when he was hired. He took over a preseason top 10 team. Might have been a little overrated but that basically never happens unless you get hired by a blue blood.

We were preseason number 7 in both the AP and coaches poll.

Part of me thinks this is all on Prohm’s coaching, and another part of me thinks it’s a lack of talent and players with very little basketball IQ.

But ultimately Prohm is responsible for it all. The coaching, the lack of talent, etc.
Yeah some of both. Watching those teams wirh Ejim, Niang Morris etc they all were really smart players.

We all bleed Cardinal and Gold. Most of us are at the point of bleeding out. We need a coaching transfusion. So, in the meantime, I am curious about wagering. We just lost to KU 2 days ago by 33 points. Now the point spread is at 11. I am very tempted to take the easy money on this. Thoughts?

I know that the tv schedule is made well in advance, but I find it humorous that our game is the only big 12 game between unranked teams and it’s on abc

I'm gonna watch this game today. Why not.
2-28-1999 We beat KU in one of the most consequential/most Hilton Magical games in Cyclone history....I have the poster to prove it.
My dream: Coach designates two guys to play defense with "foul abandon", not caring if they foul out and see how referees call it early.....at least go out punching and fighting. And by punching, I mean metaphorically punching...not actually throwing a balled fist at someone.

That game actually set the stage for the next season

I think Iowa State covers in this one. In most of these back to back situations the team that gets destroyed the first game easily covers in the 2nd game.

It’s a bad matchup, and we don’t guard or rebound. I would assume it won’t be 33, but it’ll be comfortable

And let’s not forget how lucky Prohm got his second year getting Naz and Monte back. We could be looking at 4 out of 5 years at no tourney if those things don’t happen.

What would the actual attendance be for this game if there was no pandemic going on? O/U 7,500?
