*** Official Iowa State Season Thread ***

The announcer that played at Mizzu really made a great point at the end of the game, ISU just cannot allow 4 runs by OU of 8/10 to 0 and be expected to win games in the league that this strong.

Same as we have seen lately, good effort, we are hustling, but we continue to make to many turnovers, defense is optional at times and we give up runs to the other team, with weak coaching. How often do we hearing the announcers commenting what a great set, Prohm drew up out of an out of bounce play or even in our offensive sets? Few if any.

I think Solo looked gassed out there. I get we don't have enough big guys and Conditt is vastly underperforming. I think Prohm almost has to steel a minute or two before media timeouts with a small lineup to keep Solo's legs fresh.

I really had fun arching this game. Love Bolton.
Bolton seemed pretty entertained by the OU fans chanting “left, right, left, right, etc...” as he fouled out. Not saying he doesn’t care about winning, but when “the best player” seems content and entertained by things like that it’s tough to turn things around.

He wants to win so badly. I feel sorry for him some times.

what these last two games showed is with a full roster this team is better than they were at the beginning of the season. I know people will do every single thing in their power to not have to admit that because Jamie might read their comment and that will make his decision to keep Prohm, but the team has improved

I wonder if Bruce Weber travelled to Ames to coach them the last three days and turned them around like they did tyrese

Sure OU attacked the rim more, but 21-2 in FTs is absurd. How Bolton never got to the foul line is beyond me. Multiple times he got hit while driving.
Refs definitely missed some contact on Clone guards. Thought Reaves got a few easy ones. I’d rather they just let them play. I think it kills game momentum.

Young and Conditt don’t play though contact well. Partly why every shot is a hook.

Honest question here from someone who learned basketball 40 years ago. Is the concept of man-ball-basket a thing for defense anymore? Things have changed so much maybe I am just an out if touch grumpy old man on wondering why our guys don't seem to know where to position themselves on d.

Hey now! He had 2 rebounds.

Its already been 2, might be another 2 depending on who is coaching next year. We do have K-State left this year so they might have a chance to win that one.
You said years away but now are saying it's possible yet this year. LOL.

Players from all teams do that once in a while. I've seen GREAT players from KU and Baylor do that at Hilton and Cyclone Alley would fall for the sit down while we were shooting FTs.

Loved the effort. Outside shot was falling enough to win, unfortunately Solo and GC missed 11 shots inside of 5 ft. Not to mention close misses by Bolton and JCL. Hard to win when you can’t finish around the rim or get to the FT line.
The current staff just isn't able to teach these things, and it has been a very big thorn in the side of this program for the past few seasons. Rebounding goes along with it. Just really wish Prohm would have made an assistant change to address this. I think it could have made a big difference. A team can't be successful in P5 with no inside abilities. And that doesn't mean a getting a big 7-ft dude. It means the ability of everyone to finish when they get to the hoop, and draw fouls to get to the line.

This is a game where we miss Foster. With our 4 and 5 positions missing 11 shots under 5 ft, we are so easy to guard after awhile. Foster at least gives you a pick and pop threat and he hits just a couple outside looks, then you have something. At least a long the lines of Manik threat, which opens the lane for drivers. Sigh

If you’re questioning Solo’s ability to finish at the rim, based on today’s game then this is his first game you’ve watched. He’s one of the most efficient scorers in the paint. He had a bad day today but he’s usually money with the baby hook and 12 ft jumper.

As the other thread talked about bringing in old players, what we need is someone like Jackson Vroman to come in and teach post moves. This is the biggest glaring weakness of the Prohm era is lack of post scoring development. Bring in an assistant that can teach these guys some moves to get buckets and fouls. Get an offensive weapon on the interior and the outside shooting becomes so much easier.

Well. ISU had more assists than turnovers. That's a step in the right direction. Is there an emotional leader on this team? They all seem really sad or bored when they go to team huddles.

Recruit players that already have that skill and continue to develop. Also like kids who lead and win at a high level in high school.

True, but the baby hook doesn't draw a lot of fouls either.
