*** Official Iowa State Season Thread ***

ISU has won some close games under CSP but more often than not late possessions down by a bucket has resulted in a lot of 'What was that?'.
To be fair to Steve.. I actually liked the play call and have seen a few other teams run similar plays to end the game. A lot of times you get a guy that helps off big time to contest the drive and the offense kicks it for a 3.

That was either an offensive foul on Solomon for rooting out WVU's big, or it was a block on WVU's big. There was no reason why a whistle wasn't blown on that play even if the refs were caught off guard.

WVU rebounded 40% of its misses. Hard to win games giving up that many offensive rebounds.
Hope Foster can be the kind of rebounder ISU has needed.

Probably because Bolton lost the ball on his own before he rammed into a defender. I've never seen a Div 1 guard lose the handle as much as him.

That actually doesn't matter (although him losing the ball was pathetic). You're still not allowed to impede someone's movement and that's what their big did. The side angle clearly showed him moving. You can call a block / charge without the ball being involved.

It might be a decent play call for a guard less prone to turnovers.
Bolton is not that guard.
When the play is "take the ball in a straight line to the rim", Bolton seems to be the guy that should run that. The problem is that when a something happened that Bolton didn't plan for, he s*** his pants.

Outside of Prohm's first two seasons, I feel as if Prohm's teams have been atrocious at playing off of the set that was called in the huddle or from the bench. When the play doesn't work (typical), our teams just stand around and say "well now what".

I'm suggesting that maybe we don't run plays like that with players who can't do it.
On our team, Bolton's the best guy for that play. That's an indication that we need a different play. Bolton wouldn't be that guy on a decent-good team.

Yeah I completely agree. Personally, I wish we would've drawn up a play for someone for a 3. We're 2-9 and haven't won a conference game. Why the hell would we want to go to OT?

Watch the backside of this play. There was a shooter in the opposite corner had Bolton been able to turn the corner. Staple 3 point play in Prohm's playbook. Think of Walker's pass to Harris to cut it to 6.

I'll have to watch it again because I didn't see that action of the play. That play would work for a 3, however I honestly don't think Bolton would've ever kicked it. Lol

There were guys open. Walker had his hands up (wide open) for a three. Bolton didn't even attempt to look. He was out of control and lost the ball. Then slammed into the guy that Young pushed into him. Is that's Prohm's offense this year?

"Hey Rasir, we're gonna base our offense on you bulldogging your way into the lane, and if you don't dribble off of your foot, or just randomly lose the ball, I want to to force up a 360˚, triple pump, no look behind the back shot. You guys all got that? And if any of you happen to get the ball, just go one on one and force up some kind of shot. All right, Cyclones on 3......."

Last night was much better, really felt good for the players but then at the end, the realization that Prohm is the one drawing up the last play....that was frustrating. I get wanting the ball in Rasir's hands but the comeback came when Walker was the primary ball handler (we actually saw a successful PnR@!!!), they could have run something for Rasir through him. It's the same stuff we've seen for 6 years, a coach totally out of sync with his team.

The hard part about seeing a kid like Walker play well is that with an inevitable coaching change, you never now who will be here down the road. I think he's still raw but he's going to be good in a couple of years.

Yes. Other than the first year where he said they were running hoibergs stuff he always just figes the ball to a point guard and says go get it. Can work when you have guards like monte and his murray state pgs. Works less so when you fail to get a point guard.

Walker was in a groove, basically every bucket during the comeback came through him, should have had the ball in his hands. Rasir was only thinking about driving, he was never even looking at anyone else, not even the guy he plowed in to.

And when you fail to bring it shooters, it works even less.

This has been his biggest recruiting fail.

i remember after the Iowa game Monte’s senior year, he commented on the fact that they were a jump shooting team, and it made sense. Problem is, they still want to be a jump shooting team, and there are maybe three guys that you would call even average shooters.

Since we're letting Ruizz relax, no real reason to wait until midnight.
I think the 15.5 spread vs Oklahoma can be beat. They've been on a roll and it's time for a letdown. Cyclones keep it under the spread, maybe under double digits.
Win? I ain't going that far.

There will be no in between in this one. It will either be a really competitive game, where we have a chance to win in the last 3 minutes, or, it will be a blood letting.

I think since they lost a tough one at tech, the latter is more likely.

I really do wonder what would have happened to iowa State basketball if Jamie would have reached out to Lon Kruger instead of McDermott. Lon was interested

Once again I find myself excited for the game. Anyone else? I think Javan will be back so that’ll help scoring some. I hope Rasir plays similar to how he did earlier in the week. As much as people compliment Walker (as they should) Rasirs performance went widely unnoticed. 15 pts 6 rebs 7ast and 4 TOs. With one turnover being the last possession. Hoping he can build off it and continue to distribute well! Also hoping one of the freshmen can catch fire scoring.
