[Eli Sanders Added] 2021 Class Breakdown

Odd decommit here - Ben Langston. He signed his NLI so ISU must be letting him out of that. Maybe a grades issue? Or Eisworth coming back didn't sit well with him.

Looking a little thin at Safety next year now.

I'm not too worried about safety. We have quite a few guys who will be ready to go.

We have Craig McDonald and Mason chambers who both got decent snaps last year for true freshman. It would be interesting to see about the two safety’s from the 2019 class. Don’t know if I saw them much last year.

Seems like grades are likely the issue in a situation like this.

Any thoughts on a couple of uncommitted guys from 2021 that still are showing as "warm" for ISU?

Kyree Young - RB Massillon, OH (maybe less likely with Eli Sanders now on board)

Shafeek Smith - CB Philadelphia, PA (same school, Imhotep Institute, as Isheem Young)

Honestly, It sucks that he's not coming to Ames, but I think he just saw the writing on the wall. I would argue that the safety position is one of are deepest spots. Not only are McDonald and Chambers ready to step up but we also have Freyler and Verdon who I'm extremely excited about. I feel that Freyler is going to see some significant snaps this upcoming season.

Thin?

Eisworth and Isheem Young return as starters. They may shuffle around a bit.

D.J. Miller, Mason Chambers, Craig McDonald and (iirc) Virdel Edwards have all seen playing time.

Malik Verdon enrolled early, and I’d be quite surprised if both he and Beau Freyler don’t see the field this season.

CMC made noise one Spring about Anthony Johnson making a good Star. He could also switch someone like T.J. Tampa to FS if he wanted to.

Vonzell Kelley and Jordyn Morgan should be ready to go—and I haven’t counted Kim-Mani King, because I’m not sure where he fits.

All that regardless of whether Robert Army signs or not. I don’t think there’s a “thin” area on this team any longer.

Also saw that Dae'shawn Davis played some RB in highschool, going off his highlights....he was pretty good. Of course thats worst case scenario.
Dae Dae is not a D1 RB. Most of the guys on defense played RB or another position on offense in high school. Craig McDonald, Cole Pedersen and Isheem Young were STUDS.

In worst case scenario, It will be Deon Silas and Rory Walling.

Man, I think it'd be fun to see Walling get a "Rudy" carry late in the year. Glad to see him earn a scholarship this year.

Wouldn't Langston have fit at the FS spot? That's basically just Miller and King now. I think Miller finished the year pretty good. It seems like King got beat a lot.

No way are they moving their best cover corner lol
Everyone thinks Tampa will be a stud but as of now we have no idea if he can play corner.

I'm not sounding the alarm here. Just saying that yah it would have been nice to have a juco step in and play day 1 if possible.

I think if they were planning on Tampa playing safety they would have trained him in that position. Looked like in yr 1 he had some trouble tackling (to be expected when he played more receiver in high school). His athleticism can't be matched though. I think he will turn into a great corner.

Morgan from the 2020 class is more of a FS if I remember correctly.
