Notable predictions.

Eli Sanders: 96 - now our kick returner. Was the best playmaker week two. Just got here.
Myles Purchase 94 - in the two deep now (got here two months ago). Look for him to play A LOT.
Beau Freyler 92 - in the two deep now (got here two months ago). Same story as Purchase.
Deon Silas 91 - That “TD” was sweet! He’s already a fan favorite.
Jaylin Noel 91- I mean, what can I say?

Sanders should have been KR from day 1. Hutchinson is great with the ball in his hands but too vital offensively and doesn’t get to top speed as fast as Eli does.

What do the numbers next to their names represent?

Name: Eli Sanders
Position: RB
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 190lb
Other Measurables:
NCAA Football 14 Freshman:
67
NCAA Football 14 Potential: 96
Player Comparison: Kene Nwangwu (I try to find someone else, but he really is the best comp)
Significant Impact: RS FR. He will be third this year. Breece Hall will go pro after next year (he would dumb not to). He will be the backup to Jirehl. Jirehl is very similar to David; Campbell had always tried to find a RB who could come give David a break. No one was good enough then. Breece can do everything. Eli will offer a change of pace to Jirehl's game
Attributes: [Speedster] [20/20] [Downhill]
Areas of Improvement:
He needs two off-seasons with Andrews to really take the next step. He's a slim 190; if he can carry 205 - 210, he has a future in the NFL. He also needs to work on his physicality. He is adverse to running over tacklers. He will need to get familiar with trucking dudes.
Thoughts:
Was a backup his Junior year. Chandler was one of the best team's in the country his senior year. He was a big part of that.
An NFL player who goes to the Chandler game says he is the real deal and would have the big time schools all over him if not for COVID.
He runs a bit stiff and will need to work on his agility, but he makes up with it by being so d*mn quick off the snap and he has really good vision.
The plays to watch are the first play of his Junior Highlight and the fourth and fifth play of his senior highlight. Those best show his talents: his burst, his top speed and his vision.
I see him in the NFL. Will he be a Breece Hall level talent? Not many are. But I think if he is solid at catching and improves his toughness and strength, we are looking at another NFL RB for Campbell.
Just committed to USC. Will likely be their feature back next year...

Our staff definitely dropped the ball in that fiasco, kept the worst of the 3 backs. Turns out they may have been right about deserving a bigger role.
Right now, and this is hard to fathom, we are a better team/program than USC and they are getting our scraps.

I wouldn’t call Sanders a scrap if last season wasn’t a fluke for him. If we use Sanders correctly then Sanders>>>Sama
I would arguably say that Sama was used incorrectly this season. His best runs were when he was given the ball with a head of steam and told to run straight. How many times did he get the ball at a stand-still and have to make a decision?

I guess some don't pay attention to numbers, because Sama is the better back his first two years hands down. I get Sanders was behind Breece his freshman year, but sophomore year Sama is still the better back.

Riley has more current NFL rbs than our staff but I'm sure you knew that.
Lincoln Riley RBs in NFL from his time as a HC:
  • Rhamondre Stevenson
  • Marshawn Lloyd
  • Keontay Ingram (PS)

Matt Campbell RBs in the NFL from his time as a HC:
  • David Montgomery
  • Breece Hall
  • Kareem Hunt
  • Kene (PS)

If you want to count Lincoln Riley's years as OC at Oklahoma (2015 and 2016), he inherited Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine. We could look at recruiting rankings if you'd like, but I would trust Campbell's eye for talent over Lincoln Riley when it comes to finding and coaching running backs 10 times out of 10.
