I must be living in a different timeline, my grass in Ames just had a little frost on it.
I had never even heard of a snow squall warning before...was confused when I heard it on my radio!
Normally used in the Great Lakes region with lake effect snows...you get the snow squalls moving off the lakes and onto the land (Buffalo, Syracuse, etc.).
I need to convince the wife to move. I swear my blood gets thinner every year, I just can't with winter anymore.

Need pictures...Mother in law in Ankeny says they have 8 inches of snow. In less than 3 hours...holy crap!
Just measured the deck in Johnston and we are at 5 iches ... swore it was going to be over 8 inches.

I lived in Iowa for about 45 years. Never heard of a snow squall or a derecho until now. Are they making this **** up as they go?
Snow squalls are a new distinction I think. But they simply describe, brief heavy snow that will cause travel problem. Think 50 car pile ups that happen because people are too stupid to slow down.
