I was watching other trends, and allowing for the fact that Americans (of the USA sort) tend to be obstinant and full of "muh freedumbs", and leadership at the national, state and local levels was...less than good...

It ain't complicated.
Mandate masks.
Never open the bars and restaurants until things are under control. Same with churches and other large public meeting places.
Work from there.

These are death rates. Are you inferring no one can die of the flu and/or it wasn't documented as such? Also, my comment is an indictment of the CDC more than the poster because conveyance of such is more to fit a narrative than to provide true measurements.
G - read this article earlier when you posted it. Good info. The article I posted is from today. Nothing contradicts the earlier article, only pointing out that it has apparently changed over time making it more contagious. The highly contagious nature of this beast is what makes it so nasty - imo.
I'm sure it's had some effect as people are likely more spread out than earlier. I would have figured it would have continued to go down slightly or level off for cases in a 'valley'...definitely not 40,000+ nationally for a period of time. That was QUICK.
The graph presents deaths per infection not the death rate. The link only had data about death rate which is different.
The reason the CDC uses estimates for the flu is the lack of testing for the flu.
I'm not sure how, but I do think you need to start from a position of mandating it.
Many leaders in this country spent months dismissing the idea of wearing masks. They mocked people that wore masks. They acted like it was affront to their freedom. Imagine if all leaders in this country were on the same page and encouraged all people to wear masks and social distance?
To get it back to the subject of this thread, I completely understand that Iowa State cannot ensure that everyone attending a football is in a mask for the entire game. But I think the change in posture to mandate that everyone have one to get in (vs. the previous idea that we didn't need one to get in), will ensure that more people do wear them. It gives people "permission" to wear them. There are far too many people that care what other people think and don't want to look stupid by wearing a mask.

Yeah I’m not sure where that “no” in my post came from but it makes it sound douchey. Just pointing out that something like the common cold is highly contagious, but not virulent. Ebola would be something that’s the complete opposite.
