I think you're right about that, although that's what some people held against Prohm from the very start.

The difference being the program was in a different spot when we hired Prohm. That was the time to make the major hire of Altman. When you have been in the Big 12 gutter 2 of the last three years and presumably 3/4 for the sake of the conversation then you go mid-major.

The last guy we hired from Utah State had a couple of pretty good seasons...

He has had a lot of success at South Dakota and Utah State. But I don’t think he with be at Utah State next year. So the time is now and JP isn’t there yet.

Who has Jamie ever employed as a basketball coach that he needed to exceed that number?

or, I guess more accurately, who has he employed as basketball coach that wanted to stay at Iowa State, and didn’t spend three off seasons trying to find new jobs?

We get it. You hate Fred. He was vastly underpaid in the market and JP kept looking for the local discount and then have the Athletic Dept marketing people promote the top end number of the contract. Those stunts got old.

Nebraska, a historical nobody of college basketball is paying Fred more in his first year than we are paying for year 5 of prohm.

I’m not a Husker fan so I don’t care about how his tenure at NU goes...although I would be surprised even if he doesn’t have success. I’m fairly confident he could coach in-game circles around the guy we currently have.

Im much more concerned about why in Year 5 we only have 4 players on our roster (Halliburton, Young, Bolton & Jacobson) that should be logging any type of meaningful minutes for a Big 12 team.
We have zero identity. With CFH he recruited shooters. Everyone on the team was a threat to shoot the ball minus McKay. What is our identity? We aren’t a defensive team. We can’t space the floor when you play two bigs. We don’t have any length in the guard court anymore. Bolton, Nixon and Jackson are all small guards. I shouldn’t be wondering in Year 5 what we are trying to accomplish on either offense or defense.
TLDR: “Hoiberg Hoiberg drool Hoiberg!!!“

I didn't say that was why they let him go. So busy trying to argue with everyone you don't even read the posts anymore. Prohms a disaster and even Fred's worst year at ISU when he took over a dumpster fire from McDermott he went .500. Fred's worst year was still better than multiple Steve prohm seasons. And considering what each walked into that is a sad sad thing. Prohm was gifted a top 25 squad and in 5 years turned the program into the lowest it's been in over 40 years.

Fred has the best winning percentage in ISU history. I get that he is never coming back here and that some people feel personally attacked that he persued his dream to coach in the NBA.

Fred's the best we've had. Too bad people are doing the jilted, bitter Iowan thing.
Maybe even worse to see anyone clinging to a 20 loss coach here.

ISU can top both quite easily. Is Otz still with the former ISU bball player (forgot her name).

What is Otz' buyout?
4 million his first year and 3 million his second year. Combine that with Prohm’s large buyout and I don’t see it happening for ISU, unfortunately.

I could just see you talking to your grandkids in 20 years, as you’re drooling all of yourself, telling them about the Hoiberg glory years.

Go back to putting pins in the voodoo doll. I’m sure you love the fact the program is flailing.

Imagine thinking the truth is hating. Calling a coach a worthless ****, or telling them to gtfo is ok, but acknowledging Fred and carol desperately wanting out of Ames, starting two years after coming home to take his dream job, means you hate him.

I know that you think your purpose in life is to defend all things fred Hoiberg. Any dollar required to keep him as coach was available.

I’m sorry he wanted to leave you so bad he tried for years before it happened.

No one is happier that the program is failing as you. You hated Prohm from day one. You will hate any other future coach not named Fred. All you do is talk about the past and constantly talk about your obsession, Hoiberg.

If every dollar was available after Year 2 and 3 then why did JP tell the people on the summer circuit that the cost of the head coach would mean increases for the ticket holder. Why was he underpaid and year 2, 3 and 4. I understand the proposal that was on the table at the end of Year 5 but the chain was being pulled for 3 years.

I also think it’s fair to acknowledge that Fred was actively looking for other job opportunities in response to JP’s screwing around and the fact that Carol and him didn’t like the fishbowl.
