I don't do breakfast a ton.

It was a fairly simple breakfast, but most memorable recently was looking out over the bay in Newport, Oregon, having what they called a 'small' pancake.

Thing was massive.

As a child, most sunday mornings my dad would make waffles, eggs, and ham. We ate a lot of those. Never used store bought syrup. My parents would make simple syrup and add a some Mapleine to make maple syrup. To this day, I dont like the store bought stuff. I do tolerate it more than I did as a child though. Sometimes i will get pure maple syrup, but most times i make what I ate as a child.

Are you drinking a mimosa?

Also, the view seems decent but it isn't exactly like watching porn.

As an appreciation gift for coaching the last couple of years, a family has given me maple syrup that is made by one of their friends that is sold only to specialty food stores and gift shops. My kids prefer Market Pantry syrup from Target. As always, the moral of the story is that kids are weird.

The syrup I make is nothing special. Two parts sugar, one part water, and artificial maple flavoring (mapleine brand is best) to taste.

There are 3 that come to mind. The first two are in Minnesota
- The Cajun (with the Andouiille Sausage) at Dehn's Manor
- The stuffed French Toast at Mavericks (sour dough French Bread)

The other was The Migas at the Ruby Slipper Cafe in New Orleans.

However, I'm not sure anything hit the spot better than Doritos and Mountain Dew on hangover Saturday mornings (OK, it was probably more like lunch time at the earliest) during college.
Have driven and ridden by there many times but never stopped. I take it you would recommend it?

I totally forgot it was Friday. Eh.

What's your favorite breakfast food you've ever had? I think mine might be the key lime French toast that Provisions in Ames had a couple of summers ago.

breakfast is my least favorite. I HATE pancakes, waffles, French toast, regular toast, cold cereal, hot cereal. I will eat egg dishes but it has to be the least breakfast type dish. So the southwest omelet or the taco breakfast skillet. My favorite is a southwest omelet at the original pancake house in Edina. Not in ankeny.

I did try and sort of like sweet pancakes in Amsterdam. But I mostly liked the fruit and whipped cream.

Do you still want my restaurant recommendations?

Dinner is pretty good. The breakfasts are great.

It's an old school place. Meats with little seasoning, salad dressing comes in one of those old-timey 3 cup salad dressing holders, you get a basket of crackers before the meal, and the dinner rolls come with those little individual pats of butter. It's also a bottle club. The prime rib is very good and the hashbrowns are some of the best hashbrowns ever.

Disclaimer: The owners of the restaurant are sort of related to my wife. Their oldest son owned the construction company that built our house and their younger son (who now runs the restaurant) is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

Sounds like it’s best you sleep til 11 so you can skip straight to lunch.

Be forewarned, this anecdote should give you an idea about the place's typical clientele. When the son that runs the place found out that giant senior living complex was being built at the end of the road, this is what he said, "JC - They are building 400 senior living apartments at the end of the road. Those are MY people."

At home it would be home fries (skin on washed and sliced thin) fried fairly well done in bacon drippings with onions (green pepper optional). Turn off the heat and sprinkle generously with sharp cheddar cheese. Salt and pepper generously. Wash it down with a Diet Dew and I'm pretty much in heaven.

There is a very good homestyle breakfast place here in Jensen Beach called Jan's. You can get a custom made omelette with whatever ingredients you want. A side of red skin potatoes and a giant glass of FRESH SQUEEZED orange juice is pretty damn good with the rye toast to go with it.

Best brunch buffet was at a place on the NE side of Iowa City. Can't remember the name but was on a Mother's Day and the food was spectacular.

The vixen makes a conglomeration she calls Slop Pot - has eggs, sausage (generally spicy), hash browns, onions, peppers, mushrooms, jalapenos, and whatever else she can find to throw in it. It looks horrible but tastes awesome. I ladle a bunch of her homemade hot salsa over the top, and lots of shredded Co-Jack cheese.

I'm a breakfast addict....pancakes are my all-time favorite, but I can and will eat breakfast food at any meal. Omelets are great, waffles, steak & eggs, hell you name it.

Since my blood sugar spiked I have to be careful with OJ, but every so often I break down and have some.

And @harimad, I'm with you, kiddo - most workday mornings I opt for the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit at Hardee's.

RIP Cyclone Truck Stop. Greatest place to eat breakfast at 2am. They had a dish called the Smoker Tortilla that was awesome, especially if you want lots of meat and cheese for breakfast.

My go-to for over 20 years. I would still be eating it for breakfast today, but sadly, they discontinued it in 2k18.

Best breakfast? Whatever they’re serving at our tailgate and beer.
