Van Halen is fine and all, but you are in some serious denial...

Is no one gonna mention not a single coach likes a non-gigantic mainstream band?

Yea but let's be real. The reason why bands get so big is because 95% of the time, they're actually good. You can say they sell out or you can hipster it and say you liked them before they were cool whatever. But all of those bands or people mentioned are objectively good in their genre and era.

I don't think of Van Halen as a hair band, but they certainly inspired a decade of annoying lead singers that looked like women and guitar players with horrible, shrill tone(cough....... CC Deville......cough...cough).

I'm not claiming that at all. It just seems odd to me that no one likes more obscure or less-generic country, or less radio-pop/rock-type music. These seem like safe answers to me.

I think, for the most part, the only people that name an obscure band as their favorite band are pretentious people.

So I’m shocked Herman didn’t do it.

I hate that trope so much. If I listed my 10 favorite bands/artists, probably half of them would be obscure, and the other half would be inexcapably popular.

Most of my good friends are in the same boat. Just because love a band that isn’t that popular, doesn’t mean they **** on popular bands reflexively.

I also know pretentious people with awful taste.

I said favorite, not top 10 favorite.

Why do you think that? Do you honestly believe if your favorite band isn't in Top 40 radio you're pretentious? There are dozens of rappers I've never heard of from people all over my Twitter feed. Guess I should call them all pretentious.

You've probably never heard of 4 of my 5 favorite bands and it has nothing to do with pretentiousness. It has everything to do with the music you like. The stuff I like isn't on the radio because it's not popular enough. I don't like it because it's not in the radio. Not everyone is an emo kid in high school arguing minutiae of record labels.

Zac Brown Band might be the closest of the named bands to what I like, and the one you've heard of is Counting Crows.

I don’t think but maybe one or two of the bands listed on the coaches list would be considered a top 40 band. Some of them maybe like, 25+ years ago, I guess.
