Bates' father speaks out

wow. I feel a little bad for Phil Jr. now seeing what Sr is like, and how tight of a leash he is keeping his son on. Jr. needs to stand up for himself, as it sounds like little league dad is out of control and made jr quit, and is now in damage control and trying to protect his son for the situation he has put him in.

As far as the team goes, I am sure that this changed some of their minds about how much they like him after he bails on them mid-season.
 
I swore that everyone said that Bates wanted to play his true frosh year and didnt want to redshirt.

My family might be crazy at times, just imagine if I was a star college athlete. They'd be insane.

As for PB, let's not forget that a LOT of people on this board were saying how he was the better QB and etc. I am glad Arnaud won out the job, but I do feel bad for Bates in that regard, but this is playing out in an embarrassing way. As I said in another thread, if I was in this situation, my dad would tell me to stick with my commitment.
 
I guess Bates Sr. likes to take long swims in "Lake Me". He is single handedly turning his son into TO without the talent to back it up.

It's called quitting, sir

What Phil Bates is:
A good athlete
A quitter
A terrible teammate
Not a person to count on
A wide reciever wether he likes it or not

What Phil Bates is NOT:
A Big XII quarterback
A team player
Someone who can swallow their ego
Tough

i would add grown up and independent
 
come on yall. those who call phil a quitter, be easy on him. though he is an 18 yr old, that doesnt always mean a grown up in the eyes of a parent. and those of yall who think he shuodl be let off scott free, come on. he is old enough to quit suckling the teet.

When Bates was asked what precipitated his son leaving, he responded: “What do you think did?â€￾

The fact that he's a quitter?
 
Much ado about nothing.

By Monday we will have heard the last from both Bates Sr. & Jr.
 
I would love to chat with Phil Sr.

Phil: My son is not aa quitter.
Me: Oh, so he is going to finish the season?
Phil: Of course not
Me: So he is quitting the team
Phil: No
Me: Was he kicked off the team?
Phil: No
Me: So he quit...

After everyone gets this out of our system, I suggest we just forget about the whole thing...AA is going to be a great QB. He already is a good one.

Yeah, he would be one hell of a PR. I just think his main reason for coming here backfired.

Even if he stuck with WR, with Darks and Johnson, he would be looking at being a #3 receiver. Those two are already playing better than PB did last year.

What coach wouldn't want to get two for the price of one? A good athlete and a former athlete father , who still thinks that he, the father, is still in the game. All the father is good for at this point is as an extra tackling dummy.
 
My .02, I think that Phillip Jr. is a good kid, he has a lot of issues that go way beyond football that is apparent.

I hope that he has some say as to where he goes next. I hope that he picks somewhere far away, so he can develop as a player and a person. I thank him for his efforts while at Iowa State.

Now can we all please get back to focusing on kicking Baylor's *** tonight.

My .10 agrees with this.... I think he's a good kid he's just making (or Daddy is making and he's not standing up for himself) some poor decisions, not just for his college career but for his life in general. Transfering, refusing to play other positions, etc will hurt him in the end. Really it is sad to see it work out like this, but on the other hand... don't let the door hit you on the way out. Because I don't want *** prints on the Jacobson athletic building doors!!!!
