Hoiberg to Huskers

As is tradition

Ames during college was awesome.

I lived there for a couple years after college - it’s not as great when you’re not in college (didn’t hate it though).

I was ready to leave Ames when I left, but I could definitely live there now as long as I didn't live within 5-6 blocks of Campus. I've really gotten to like downtown and the neighborhood to the north.

I wish it would have been this way when I left in early 2000. I would have loved to have stayed in the area. At the time, the vast majority of ISU grads were leaving for places like Minneapolis or Kansas City - there just wasn't much to keep people in the Des Moines area. Too hard to even consider moving back now, with 2 kids in school and 2 established careers.
I moved to KC for the same reason in '98. We moved back when my son was 2 because I didn't want him to grow up in their schools. :) Ankeny has been a great location, but I was lucky that my job was able to be done anywhere and my wife didn't have a job at the time, 2006.

After hearing all the buzz on this, and I hear a lot because I grew up in Nebraska, my conclusion is that this would be a slam dunk hire for Nebraska, if it pans out.

But I'm still scratching my head pretty hard on why it would be a good move for Hoiberg. Seems to me there would be a lot of other options out there.

Someone convince me...

Fred allegedly hates recruiting, so he takes over for a program who’s fans don’t give a **** about basketball, in a city where there is nothing to do and nothing around with 0 basketball history. I think now that times gone on, that he just hated coaching at Iowa State.

Nebraska does care about basketball and have plenty of fan support. The rest is true but let’s not pretend that recruiting to Lincoln is going to be all that different than recruiting to Ames.

Right? He had literally the perfect fit at ISU. Basketball school with a wide open check-book and infinite job security. But have fun in Lincoln!

Wide open check-book? Just stop. If this is true then why did JP say there was limitations on what we could pay CFH and that the pay increases would be passed along to the fans during the Cyclone Tailgate tour. Not sure I disagree with JP about the limitations but I thought it was BS for him to say this publicly.

Convince me that recruiting to the only Power 5 school without an NCAA tournament win is no different than recruiting to any other school, much less Iowa State.

UNL is set to breakout in hoops. A great arena and fanbase. All they need is someone like Hoiberg to step in take it. Miles was close but just couldn't get over the top. Fred will if he goes there.

Which is why it's best if he doesn't go there. There are enough successful D1 programs in the Midwest as it is. Don't need another one.

I think Jeremy came on here saying there were donors prepared to pay Hoiberg whatever salary he wanted but they required him to sign a long-term contract with a huge NBA buyout and he said no.

I'm not sure about Randy P's recent sleuthing and the Michigan State / Jack Hoiberg connection. I'm finding it a little hard to believe that Nebraska is holding off on announcing because Fred and Carol want to go to watch Jack play cleanup duty at a tourney game.
