Random Thoughts the 13th: Jason Takes RTT

I think my wife uses a similar line to direct the kids towards me. I know she just says "Ask Dad" if the questions are anything related to comic books, Star Wars or health/medical topics.

Our family consists of, Mom- English. Dad- everything else, I have had to resort to getting the kids to baffle the teacher with BS sometimes. Oldest kids have used the line, dad said he taught it this way while lecturing at Waldorf College (now Waldorf University). At minimum they will get like 3/4th credit no matter how wrong they are with that answer.

No. She has a somewhat flexible schedule but definitely has to go in to do her work. Besides, she would probably murder someone if they ever treated our microwave - or any other surface - like they do at her work.

So pretty much like the rest of the state, we have had 6 snow days this year. There was an article in the Trib talking with locals school about how they are dealing with the missed days. Ames has enough student hours, so they are not making up any days. Other schools are doing away with teacher in service time and using it as student time instead. Our superintendent was quoted in the article and it stated that our last day was June 3rd. That was not accurate (we are currently going until June 6th) so now he is trying to do damage control and get the paper to print a correction. I love how we are making up all the snow days “because we don’t want to shortchange our students.”

This morning there were 2hr delays due to the cold scrolling on the news. The 6yr old says, “So we have a 2hr delay?” No, not us. “So there is no school?” No, we have school. (Few minutes later) “But it is *like* we have a 2hr delay?” No. School is on time, go eat breakfast and get dressed.

6?? You lucky dog. We have blew well past that. Our school has about 5-6 make days now listed. That is on top of the 5 that get packed in as freebies, (we can get 5 days off before we start adding). The kids haven't had a full week of school since before Christmas.

BTW, the forecast looks to be adding a few more days over the next week or two.

Next tuesday, I will be roaming the hallowed grounds on a visit with the oldest. There is a chance.

Our district has had 6 snow days and added one. They put it on this Thursday which is the first day kids were going to have off for Spring Break, It is the end of the trimester so they told the middle school and HS teachers not to reschedule any finals to these days and not to start any new lessons. The middle school and HS kids that go to school will be watching movies all day.

They also gave us a cookie as we were leaving. I highly recommend having your kids apply to St Olaf if for no other reason than to get free food.

Take him back down the 1st weekend it hits 65-70 degrees the sundresses/shorts alone will sell him on making the right choice. Ratio sure is way different then when I went there.

Daughter was supposed to have two outdoor soccer games and her final indoor game this weekend. We ended up barely having her indoor game (noon game Sunday and all earlier games were cancelled due to roads)

While warming up, her cleats catch on a seam and she bites it. And I mean, bites it. It was one of those awkward looking wipe-outs that you see on YouTube and laugh at, but since it was your own kid, you have to make sure they're ok before you start laughing.

She wound up skinning a 3 inch by 3 inch patch on her knee that looked pretty gnarly. She bounces up and looks at her bloody knee. I'm preparing for her to either meltdown or to not want to play.

Nope. Neither.

Instead, she goes to her bag, pulls out some gauze and athletic tape and tapes it up herself. Then she pulls up her sock over the gauze and runs back out there.

She then proceeds to have one of the better games she's had in awhile, netting 2 goals and an assist, while her team wins 4-0. Bonus point: she also looked tough because they were in their white uniforms and her sock was all bloody and intimidating.

Afterwards, I ask her how her knee felt. She says, "It stings a little, but not toooo bad." I tell her good, because I plan on shoving her down before every game.
