Chores, hunting, cold football games, pushing snow, ice fishing, etc
I would highly recommend getting some if you do much outside in the winter.
Maybe. But if we even get a little bit of snow, I wouldn't be surprised if we were under a blizzard warning. The worst weather I've driven home from work in was several years ago when we were under a blizzard warning and we maybe had gotten 2 inches of snow. It took 2 hours to get from downtown Des Moines to 50th street in WDM.

Again, I'll argue those who get the least snow are going to get the worst. That rain is going to freeze come Saturday night and we're forecasted to be below freezing for the next 10 days are so.
Duke is a Nike school, Kansas is an Addidas school. Carharrt should be the official sponsor of rural Iowa. Spend some time in any small town Casey's on a cold Saturday morning and you will see an endless stream of men (and women) decked out in Carrharts.
I know several fans who will throw an ISU hoodie over them and wear them for the football home games in November. I only use mine for moving snow when it's really cold out and for sledding with my kids. Killer workout. Slogging up a snow covered hill in boots and coveralls will wear you out fast.
Carhartt is soooo unnecessarily bulky. There are technologies that North Face, Patagonia, and other companies are using that are so much better and that you can actually walk in and move your arms freely.
I bought a brand of overalls from Menards called 'Old Mill' that cost about half as much as Carhartt and they work great.
Menards is one of the great retail stores left in America. I was so glad that when we moved to OH there is a location like 5 minutes from me.

I agree with you, they are built well but really bulky. As you wear them the bulkiness gets better - I like my carhartt coats and coveralls best after wearing them a year or two. One thing I have found that helps is to put them in the dryer (for hours, not just a cycle) when you get them on no heat and let the dryer beat them up a little bit to make them “wear” a little bit.
