Moving back west a hair? Not near as heavy of a cut off in western Iowa as previously shown. Maybe it slowed down or picked up some moisture? Most had us, which is in the Algona area, trending in the 2-3" range, now pushing back up a hair.

I suppose it will suck but I'm having a hard time complaining too much. We got to mid January largely unscathed and now it's been cold and snowy. Meh. It's an Iowa winter. Once you hit mid February, you know there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

I am using the snow "tophat" that builds up on my bird feeder to measure the depth of each storm. The squirrels usually clear it off before the net storm.

Nice! Black-capped chickadees. Do you get any unusual or rare visitors to your feeder during the winter? I see you're in Minnesota, so pretty similar fauna to us down here in God's country;-)

Nothing special for here, chickadees, cardinals, and white-breasted and red-breasted nuthatches at the feeder. Some juncos on the ground and hairy and red-bellied woodpeckers hanging around. Did have some pine siskins (cool!) in the white cedars, have not seen them in years. Read they were down more from Canada this winter.

may need to start developing a 3 stage snow blower. The end of the driveway piles are getting to the point that the current 2 stage one may not be able to get it that high. Either that or get a chute off a silage chopper and replace the current snow chute.

hell the more snow we get the easier it will be to convince the other half to let me get that UTV with a blade for next winter. Snow blower doesn't cut it for the snow drifts that form in the driveway/street.

I've seen those too. Seems like overkill for a typical residential home in Iowa, but once every two or three years (perhaps tomorrow) we get a storm where it sure would be nice to have one of those.

Then again, even a two-stage snow blower is a pretty expensive tool for the perhaps five times a year you really need it.

You know what they call a snowblower here in central OH? A leaf blower.

It’s one of the best things about moving here from IA so far. We got 2 inches of snow yesterday and now it’s 40 and raining. Tomorrow 50 and raining. The winter pattern is just so much more variable and the average winter temps are just that little bit higher than it rarely goes in to that’s 7-10 day deep freeze.

I always go over the driveway with the leaf blower after clearing the driveway. Its gets it all the way down to bare concrete and breaks up the packed stuff. It also works great for the deck and driveway if less than 1" of snow.
