No, the regular season conference champion is what everyone acknowledges as the regular season conference champion. Which is also an irrelevant footnote not even a week later, same with the conference tournament.

Recruits acknowledge what you tell them and outside of the KU streak, most college basketball fans couldn’t tell you the regular season P6 champion from even a year ago.

Just because people don’t remember doesn’t mean it’s not what’s considered the true conference champion. And the original argument was that the conference tournament was a bigger deal than regular season titles. By your argument, nothing matters. People don’t remember who won the NCAA tournament in 2011, so even ncaa championships don’t matter.

Man it's going to take a major turnaround for KU to keep the streak going. Easily the worst coaching season I've ever seen Self have
I don't know that they have the bigs to do it, Lawson really needed a blow in the second half, but they don't have the personnel to let him take 2 minutes out in crunch time.

I remembered it was on, tuned it in for about 5 possessions each way.

It was so bad I found a movie to watch.

Say what you want about KSt they walked into our house and stole a huge win. Our game in Manhattan should decide our chances of winning an outright championship.

KSt has 5 games left on the schedule they could lose.

Kansas on the other hand could run the table if they can pull that enormous yellow beak out of their ass. Doubt they will but the schedule is favorable.

The one thing that still bothers me about that game is during his pre-game radio interview, Prohm said he felt there was zero chance Wade would play, and then he started. They definitely came in and stole one, but I think we got blind-sided with Wade playing. That's not an excuse, but I'm excited to see what we can do in Manhattan with a week to prepare.

My argument isn’t based on remembering, but your contention was, given it’s rooted in the myth of more social capital gained. If no one can even remember results from a year ago, you’re largely overstating the advantage a regular season title has in that regard over tournament title.

You went to the “grand scheme” of things route, but in the grand scheme of things they’re both largely irrelevant. Well, unless you’re 2012 Washington. In the grand scheme of things, the main point of the regular season success is measured by how it sets a team up for the NCAA tournament. Anything else is just a nice footnote. Didn’t win the regular season at 16-2 because you dropped a random Tuesday night game in January? BFD. You’re going to get a great seed and had a better season than winning the conference at 12-6 and getting a 5 seed.

If you want to delineate the small difference between the two, you don’t broaden the lense to the “grand scheme”, you narrow the focus. For example, Iowans think there’s a relevant difference between Ames and Iowa City, but in the grand scheme of things, to someone in DC they’re the same.

@surly Congrats on the win. Hope you got to go.

Thanks. Yes, I was right there in row 5. Ears still ringing this morning.

I continue to believe ISU in Manhattan will decide the conference championship, one way or another. They are the best two. Ku is a very good team but missing several purchases. Had they played 'man' last night, K-State would have run them out of the gym. They're just not the same without their bigs which leaves the door open to the States.

First it was Alexander, then Diallo and now McCormack. KU, where McDonald's AA bigs go to under perform

There a lot of McDAAs that underperform actually. I think in the Big 12 we just notice it more because KU is usually the only team that has them except for Texas.

Good lord this is dumb.
Again, one game at home for KSU isn't going to decide the league. It will depend on how KSU does on the road.

In a two-way race separated by a game or not at all, it comes down to one game. That's the one I see deciding it all.

So If KSU loses 4 road games but wins a home game against ISU you think they will still win it because they beat ISU? Good God Surly! Use your brain for once.

The regular season is far more difficult, but there is something to be said for going into the tournament on a hot streak. I would rather see an elite eight.
I hate to do this but you forced my hand.

If he thinks his team beats ISU, then he believes they don't lose four more. Is that easier for you to comprehend?
