Why is Conditt not getting more minutes?

Every minute Conditt plays is a minute that Lard isn't out on the floor working back into the swing of things. Jacobson is our steady hand inside, and every available minute outside of that needs to be devoted to getting Lard back up to his ceiling.

This is exactly right. I would also throw in Wigginton getting to play through his struggles at the end of the KU game into this category as well. Prohm is getting them ready for March.

Prohms refusal to play another big with Jacobsen doesn’t allow for many minutes to go around.

Perhaps he was sick and his father didn’t know?

With Lard’s innate foul trouble, we’ll need both Lard and Conditt if we are to go on a run in March imo. If he wasn’t sick, there were opportunities for him to get more than 4 minutes total the last three games. Generally, if you’re going to play them when you need them, you better be good at sneaking them some time when you don’t need them.

I was wondering why George Conditt is not getting more minutes. I know Lard is playing more and Jacobsen is playing quite a bit, but the past few games Conditt has really not played at all. I think he could have provided some valuable minutes against Kansas, especially with our foul trouble. I also think he would have at least gotten a few minutes against Ole Miss except for the last minute or two. I thought before the Kansas game he was playing pretty well. Would he possibly be in Prohm's dog house?

I wonder why I still look fat even when I wear Mom jeans.

George is extremely talented and ahead of schedule. On most teams in the past, he'd probably be a regular rotation player, if not a starter in the post. It doesn't take a whole lot of knowledge of the team to figure out that he's behind a sophomore who was one of the best big men in the Big 12 last year, and a 4th year junior with all kinds of Power Five starting experience.

As refreshing as it was to see him come in and put some meaningful minutes behind him, this was always the expectation. It's a positive that we feel confident enough in our #3 to want to see him playing more, but as has been said a few different times/ways on here, its not anything he did or didn't do imo. This is just what it is. he will still get some PT later this season down the final stretch of conference play, but he's a project still. Certainly a few steps further along than most anticipated, but still a project.

Prohm doesn't like large rotations. And even in the short rotation he decides on, he lets the same 5 guys on the court play extended stretches of minutes.

I don't necessarily like that. I feel he could do a better job of mixing in and alternating guys (like Conditt, Talley, and Lewis). Would help with keeping guys fresh in a given game and across the entire season. Limit foul trouble and injuries. The group of 10 we have would be capable of playing a fast-paced game for a full 40-min, something many of our opponents can't do.

Prohm is going to play who he trusts the most, regardless of my argument above. I can't fault him for that. Fred was the same as far as wanting a short rotation and getting his best players the bulk of minutes. But I do think Fred was better with situational substitutions. Whether it was getting a guy a breather an extra 30sec before a media TO, or playing the offense/defense strategy late in games.

Each coach is a bit different. We've seen what Fran does out east. Plays everyone on his bench almost every game. I think it was beneficial for him to have a couple guys sitting out this year to help fix that issue. But they still have other problems.

Agreed, there is no reason he couldnt have worked guys like Talley into that game Saturday for 10 minutes or so to keep the starters fresh. I worry the main 3 guys are playing way too many minutes and may wear down as Big 12 play progresses.

I heard he slept with Prohm's wife. Or forgot his ID. Or something along those lines

At this stage Conditt is very inconsistent. Also, he's in terrible shape and undersized (weight/strength do matter for post players).

With that said, he'll be my breakout player for next year. I think the experience he's getting this year will pay big dividends next season.

I could easily see him starting next year or at least becoming a regular rotation player (20 mpg).

The reason is the top 7 were playing very well, developing chemistry, defining roles and the game was in doubt. That is an experience they can build on moving forward. I didn't want to disrupt THT, LW or Lards confidence in order to get player 8-10 in. Prohm isn't going past 8 deep unless it is a big blowout. I cringe thinking the treads we would have if CSP forced Conditt or Talley in and they played poorly contributing to a loss.

I get wanting to see some of our good bench players some minutes but in reality that is a rich program problem and nitpicking Prohm for not getting a couple players extra 5 minutes is a good place for our fans to have. Especially after last weeks treads on Wigginton and Lard's playing time.

"Prohm said he regretted not using freshman big man George Conditt IV, who has played well recently. But with Kansas attacking the hoop at will, the Cyclones rarely got stops."

Agreed. He's clearly still a bit raw at this stage. He's very much in need of a year in the weight room, but you can't teach height and he doesn't appear to be a below-the-rim player, so lots of potential there.

Unfortunately with the way the Big XII is, there are no easy games, so it's hard to just slot him in and hope for the best when you're trying to win. I don't mean to suggest that he would cause the game to collapse, but when you're trying to win every game, every possession matters.

Behind more talented and experienced players. He has a bright future though.

One thing is for sure, he looks like a great teammate. Always up and encouraging others from the bench, engaged during timeouts, and brings great energy when he does get minutes. Looks like a fun kid.

If they can't even come in for a few minutes at a time to give the starters a break then why are they even on the team? Talley is a guy who played 25 minutes last year against Big 12 competition, you are telling me if he comes in for 5 minutes our 15 point lead vanishes due to one player? Thats completely ridiculous.

Also, I thought we had depth this year? He's riding the starters just as hard as he's always done, all I've heard all year is how much depth we have but he's not using it if thats the case.
