Steve Friggin' Prohm...

You defend your own when they're having elbows thrown at them and being pushed by opposing players and harassed by dumbass assistant coaches. Maybe that's not what you'd do but this is a team sport and a coach is going to defend his team.

Claiming that Connor was “throwing elbows” is one of the softest and most ridiculous assertions I have seen come out of the incident at the end of the game.

Is it hard to keep your nonsensical posts to ISR?

There’s nothing nonsensical about it. If you want to call Connor a prick, or arrogant, you are spot on. Personally, I think Connor’s temperament is good for an Iowa team that has historically been mentally weak under Fran. But claiming that Connor was out there throwing elbows is a massive overdramatization of what actually occurred, and it deserves to be called out.

Went to bed disappointed woke up thinking not a bad loss for a team missing two starters.

My first thought was this will be the best year in Cyclone sports history in spite of losing to Iowa

The way things are going for us right now we’ll be Iowa’s best win giving them just enough to make the play in game and we will wind up in the final 4 (keeping the 5th place Maui streak alive).

Post game comments from Coach Prohm. Yeah, he's not a happy camper, but I like everything about what he said. A calm demeanor can hide a competitive fire, and Coach Prohm showed that tonight. I was wondering what lit him up a couple times, and his answers explain that to my satisfaction. It's a big game to everyone.

This was a good game for us to have. I'm sure Coach is going to demand some attention out of the guys for the next few weeks to get some kinks worked out, and I'm sure he'll have it.

I think the other poster may be alluding to this "gym rat" technique of leading with your elbow when you're trying to make it to the hoop against a taller or stronger defender. It worked very, very well in the friendly confines of Carver, though, and got him to the line when he not only doesn't get called, but gets found himself. I doesn't work as well in East Lansing, or won't work as well in Hilton next year, I suspect.

Not sure why he apologized other than that’s just who he is.

That was my first expectation from the press conference. Not because he needed to. It's because of who he is. I think the exact reason he got so heated is because he is nothing but a class act, and an Iowa assistant implied he was doing something other than breaking things up. No better way to make a person with high principles mad.

I guess I've never seen Prohm that upset through a whole game at the officials, and some actions of another team.

The bottom line was Iowa's tactics of some cheap shots, smack talking, etc., got under our players skin, and it affected their game. Unfortunately, when the coach is really really upset too, its hard to keep things under control and be focused.

Our players were reacting way too much to bad or questionable calls. I mean, Babb just had a beautiful clean block and got called for a foul. The "block" call on Lard was just hilarious. But, our guys just didn't move on from those things.

Pencil head was an instigator twice. Looks just like an eraser with that headband on.

I agree with this 100%. Class act!

Lousy comment from the Iowa assistant. If he had CSP’s class, he would apologize. Interesting that CSP basically praised Cook for trying to be a peacemaker.

In my opinion, if there is any fault on the end of game “dust up” I think it is on us. I suspect little Fran is a prick, but I think he was just trying to hold the ball until the clock ran out. Yes, we have the right to go after the ball until the horn blows, and I like the fact that we never quit. But, I think it was time to let it go.
Just my opinion

I mostly agree. Just to be contrarian, I’ll point out that our players didn’t pitch a fit a few years ago when the dip **** from UConn dunked at the end of the game. I’ll also point out that 2 years ago our fans were livid at our players when everyone thought our players didn’t give a **** after losing to Iowa in the same way. I remember posts about Monte and how he obviously was just out for himself and didn’t care about the team and maybe he shouldn’t have come back. At least these guys obviously were ticked off about losing last night.

I agree with you 100%. That was a fantastic post-game interview. Prohm shot very straight. Owned his own part in the scuffles. Gave a level-headed explanation of what happened. Complemented the players, including Tyler Cook. Sounds like Prohm understood what Cook was doing better than Iowa's coaches who were pushing him off the court. Called out Fran for leaving the court. And then gave an incredible analysis of the game. I can't believe that he can draw on that much detail immediately after the game.

We are seeing Prohm emerge from being a good coach (with Fred's guys) to being a great coach (with his guys) . . . and definitely "our" coach.

Yeah, it was like Prohm understood what Cook was doing on the floor better than the EIU assistant did.

Shayok was being tacky by poking at the ball at the end. But little Fran should have been tossed for throwing a high elbow with time left on the clock.

The greatest coaching tactic last night was Fran's insertion of Pemsl into the rotation. That a$$hat falls down after contact by THT, gets the ref to bite and call a HORRIBLE charging foul, and then proceeds to run his mouth while laying on the ground. MJ takes exception to it, and the "entitled one" instigates physical contact. Being the gutless wonder that he is, Pencilhead cheap-shots MJ. Unfortunately, MJ's "retaliation" lands him his second foul and our interior defense suffers the rest of the first half. Also, that charge call eventually affected our play during the rest of the half - cuz Horton-Tucker (who was carving up their D with drives to the basket) would soon have to sit due to foul trouble. This was, by NO means, the only reason we lost - but Pemsl's thug play shifted the entire tone of the game. Our guys just have to channel that hatred or frustration to better play. I think we settled for too many contested 3s/jumpers vs trying to break down their 'D.' Oh well, on to bigger and better things!

It's pretty simple. We need Lindell and Solo back. We were bound to lay a turd at some point without them, and it happened.

They can have their superbowl, we will focus on B12 and post season. ISU just needs to work on getting better looks, being more patient and getting healthy.

Fran is out of control and with two mini mads of himself it's going to get worse in coming years. It was insane that he was out at midcourt freaking out with 1:20 to go (over nothing really, just a typical press) and his team up 11 points, his antics were literally the only way they could have lost at that point. It was pretty horrible officiating that they didn't T him up and probably the reason his son thought it was OK to start a fight in the closing seconds.

It's not a coincidence that Fran acts that way most games and his kid started both the incidents and was involved in an incident a few games back. The people who buy that he was tweeting a joke to an old AAU teammate are pretty naive after seeing him play. Heft was trying to put it nicely on our radio broadcast saying "well...I'll just say he's a chip off the old block".

I agree. It would have been a massive win for a young, undermanned team to beat their main rival on the road with them having their best team in years, and playing really well.
