Well, I think the sh sound in grocery is similar to how the word “sure” is pronounced. Even though it is a “c” in grocery it has an “s” sound. I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone with strong Iowan roots pronounce it without the sh sound. My family also has rural roots, so it could either be a city vs. rural thing or different classes pronounce it differently. My older family members also say warsh, I am catching myself saying it like that more the older I get.
My wife says "gray duck" instead of "goose".That one drives me nuts when I hear people say it.

Sounds like you're bi...I spent some time researching this and discovered that, when I read it, I pronounce it "gro-ser-ee" in my head. However, when I actually say it, I pronounce it "groesh-ree".

My wife says crick instead of creek. I think it's just to annoy me since she doesn't do it for any other word.
Just curious...for those who say "grosh-er-ee" or "grosh-ree", do you also say "grosher" for grocer?
