ESPN Recap?

I was referring to the written recap article on the ESPN. The recap video just shows the play in which the fight takes place.

While the out-of-bounds play against Montgomery is what raised tensions, it cannot be a justification for what Butler did to #21 (what ultimately escalated the fighting).

I found the articles focusing on Montgomery’s disqualification and not providing more context more apt articles of poor reporting. Mitch Sherman’s ESPN article being one of them.

WATCh GAO again. #21 pulled Butler’s knees into him. Wouldn’t let but let butler up.

By “he sought him out” you mean pulled him off the gang beating of Butler?

The only thing DM did that’s slightly wrong is charging the thug after he was punched, but that’s not fault in the incident.

Yeah, that was my first thought. Then I watched it a few more times and I think his emotions got the best of him.

The Baylor idiot is obviously at fault and it's a shame they'll get the same penalty. That guy was throwing punches all over the place.

You have to be blind or an idiot to not see that Baylor's player has his arms hooked around Butler's legs.
FWIW, #21 hooked Butler’s knees in an attempt (I assume) to draw a penalty. While this initiates contact, Butler appears to commit further by repositioning his knees on the players chest/throat. Clearly, both are at fault in a heated, competitive situation. Some people see black and others see white. I see gray.

Watch it when sober.

DM didn’t do anything that warrants a player going through a ref to throw punches. He pulled a guy off a pile on his teammate. Pretty standard stuff when dealing with a team of thugs. Getting physical on a good block isn’t fault. Pushing off to get away from thuggish behavior happens every game. Baylor was playing dirty and looking for a fight. DM’s emotions didn’t get the best of him as much as he was attacked.

LOL. In Wisconsin, Sunday mornings are about the only "sober" time. I also try to view the sequence without blinding Cardinal and Gold lenses.

DM sprinted to the pile and aggressively pulled 52 from the pile. That's ok, but it obviously set Roberts off. DM's fault is not backing off after the melee and walking away. Retaliating to the sucker punch with a swing, justifiable or not, is a pretty clear rules violation. "The second punch will always get caught", was a lesson I got from coaches. He will have to watch from the sideline in the first half next week unfortunately. I don't like it, but I can't disagree with the Big 12 if that's their ruling.

Baylor is a team of thugs that had been chippy and popping off for at least a few series prior, there's no denying that.

And I see the observations of someone trolling. The dude pulling him down plus loss of balance creates that extra contact and it's not on the throat.

So you’re attributing DM fault in the melee for not walking away after the melee had started?
Not a great case you have.

Charging a guy after he punched you and that’s trying to fight you may be a rules violation, but it’s not fault.

F-IN-A... I hate Baylor. Scum of the conference. Totally were coached to target our stars and disrupt our flow. Great teaching moment for Campbell and Co with our players. People are afraid of ISU these days and no doubt others will attempt similar things in the future. Wish we could've scored a few more on them but I hope HB and DM come back next year just to go to Waco and hang 60 on them! :-)

I know I have lost a lot of respect for Matt Ruhle (spelling?) based on the cast of characters he has recruited and obviously the type of play he coaches or at least condones.

Edwards was throwing punches from the start. Montgomery tried to stop him from attacking his teammate. Edwards continues to throw punches, including jumping over a ref and having a punch graze a referee. Montgomery finally responded after the second punch at him by Edwards. No Way they should get the same suspension. Give Montgomery the suspension of first half. Edwards suspended for rest of season. And give a first half suspension for Baylor #31 for his role in the melee as well since he was the first to go after Hakeem.

Video of Baylor player attempting to eye gouge.

Wow. I sure hope the Big 12 offices see this video. The Baylor player is definitely trying to get his hand inside Butler's facemask to eye gouge.

And when Butler pancakes him, the Baylor player does wrap his arms around Butler's knee not allowing him to get off of him, and Butler then uses his other knee on the guy's chest to try to pry himself off of him.

As for Montgomery... he sprints to the pile and tries to pull #52 off of the pile. Nothing wrong with that at all, in fact it's a good move on Montgomery's part. Then #52 goes over the ref to punch Montgomery. I IMO it shouldn't matter one single bit whether it's a slap or a punch. These guys have helmets on, a slap or a punch is no different in that case. The intent is still the same.

Montgomery shouldn't have retaliated, but it is natural instinct. I think if you're just retaliating you should maybe just miss the 1st qtr of the next game instead of the 1st half.

Also, is Kene out for next week? Campbell only mentioned Lang and Croney when talking about who can step in for Montgomery next week.

My guess is that Kene already gets snaps on an every game basis, so he meant more of who is going to get snaps that normally wouldn’t in Monty’s place.

Video of Baylor player attempting to eye gouge.

This is what I saw on the video board at the game that got me fired up. I really hope the office gets this video with a time stamp. Really poor on the officials for not throwing the flags required to keep this under control.

For what it's worth, ESPN College Football Final condemned the Baylor player for going over the ref.

Remember these two things.

It’s Baylor.
DM and Butler were the targets.

After that it sucks DM will miss TX, but the right call IMO. There should be 2-3 more BU players suspended.

I see the Baylor guy throw a punch (not a slap) over the official. Then Montgomery charges him, arms kind of already out before he gets to him, but he could have thrown a bit of a punch (def not a haymaker). Then the Baylor guy throws another punch at him.

Again, it'd be ideal if he could have just walked away, but hard to do after you've just been punched..

The Baylor guy jumped on an official to slap Montgomery. If that's not instigating I don't know what is. But besides that he threw 3 or 4 punches to David's sort of one in response. I love how pissed the cop was and essentially threw the Baylor guy out of the game. Screw officials I've seen enough and you're out of here.

Lots of people looking through cardinal colored lenses on here. I must have missed the amazon sale.

DM lost his composure, got into a fight and was rightfully ejected. The rules are pretty clear here. It doesn't matter who started it or what any other player did. He simply needs to be smarter than that and if you asked him I'd be he'd probably say the same. He hurt his team Sat. and his loss will hurt the team next week too.

The last thing this team needs is for someone like DM to take a swing at a guy wearing a helmet and break his hand. Fist fights against people wearing helmets are inherently stupid no matter how you slice it.
