Cy predates Loiusville's Cardinal, child. The head and the fact that is a cardinal. Which has nothing to do with our nickname 'Cyclones'
For an outsider, more than likely they will think Louisville. IMO, the Cy-twister logo is the best because it incorporates 'Cy' and our nickname 'Cyclone'.Our logo doesn't look like theirs and Cy has been around for over 60 years. It's probably not going to change anytime soon.

I like "pissed off" Cy's face on the bottom left. Definitely better without the shoes, though.
Not gonna lie, I don't like it. Sorry. His mouth looks odd. You removed the flag but it looks like he is still biting down on something with the circle at the back of his mouth and a crease in his ”cheek" area. Kinda looks like he has a dip in or something.
Lower left is the REAL Cy.
I think the mouth should be open, because Cy the mascot's mouth is open.
Coming from a fellow designer you two are a special kind of masochist to put this stuff out here. I like it and appreciate the quality efforts...but talk about an emotionally invested audience you're presenting to.
Breathe....We're not emotional about trademarks, just uniforms, and the TRADEMARKS ON THE GOD DAMN ******* HELMETS!!!
unless they are cheap yet high quality, then screw cy
That thought was where this little project started for me. Gotta get those talons out.
I did try extending the mouth to make it a smile, but thought it looked funny at the time and decided to give up and roll with the '60s cy mouth. Here's the different mouth with the nicotine patch hidden on the other side.

Either that or Leaning Cy. They are cool birds, but I just can't get over his teeth. So unrealistic. Eww. (*ignores every other unrealistic aspect*)
Considered that, but so many mascots look angry. Why not have a nice, pleasant looking mascot with a smile? Especially since the nickname logo is a huge, impossibly imposing tornado of destruction. It's a nice balance, I think.
Seems like everyone is so angry these days. But this Cy seems like he would mow your lawn for you if you were out of town. Nice bird.
I'm numb to the pain and misery at this point...
Actually I've had this in my files for years, so wanted to throw it out there and move on. Will likely be the last branding exercise I do, as I have different things cooking in the hopper that I want to focus on.
Love!!!
If Cy can wear shoes, then Cy can have teeth.
