"Old lady" names are making a comeback...Rose, Hazel, Violet. Eleanor, and its various spellings, can be shortened to Ellie if wanted. I have a feeling, though, Ethel, Minnie, and Vera aren't going to be making a comeback anytime soon.

Oldest daughter Jodie named her two girls Evelyn and Mabel. Evelyn was my paternal grandmother's name, and she had a sister Mabel. Also sisters Marcella, Beatrice, Stella, and Vanita (there's one I've never heard before).

If I ever had girls (I think it’s safe to say at this point I’m safe from it not happening) I always liked Sophia or Julia. Are those old people names?

Also, no middle names. Just first and last. My last name is plenty uncommon enough, there’s no need for a middle name.

Yeah, there aren't too many Hitlers around anymore.

Spent the weekend getting caught up on stuff at home.....Saturday I weeded, trimmed shrubs, finished mowing, and started digging a plant berm we have been talking about doing for two years now. Drank endless glasses of ice water, lost 4 pounds. Yesterday after church I did some more digging, and refilled some of the edging around the house with sand (keeps the weeds at bay). About 3PM I went out to the golf course and hit a bucket on the range, and did a little putting on the practice green. First time I have had the clubs out all year.

Oh yeah, got awesome texts and calls from all the girls for Father's Day. They still love their ol' Dad. (I still got 'em buffaloed!)

It’s a huge condo complex. The lobby is about a mile up the hill.

The more I think about this my wife is the oldest of four and they largely all grew up in a three bedroom house. They always had to share. They have also been coming down here with their entire extended family and doing just this people sleeping all over the place and no private spaces. Not to mention the expectation that you are always together all week.

I grew up in a three bedroom house with four people and we never went on vacation with anyone else. I never had to share anything and always had my space.

I'm unhappy just thinking about this sort of thing.

Debated stopping by the Uranus fudge factory. I figured myanus does a good enough job that I don’t need to check out someone else’s.

A few years ago I went to the ISU OSU football game. I decided to take what I could find of route 66 between Tulsa to Springfield Missouri. I certainly hope the rest of route 66 is more exciting because outside of abandoned motels and storage sheds I didn't see much to get excited about.

I always heard that if Iowa ceded the bottom tier of counties to Missouri, the average IQ of both states would go up 10 points.

I tend to agree but Carver doesn't have as many boys at home anymore so it might be regressing back to the mean.

I didn’t have space, but we didn’t vacation, period. Wife’s family would all go to AZ to the SIL for Christmas. I got one week of vacation and it was spent there. All in with no basement. They all had done all the tourist things so it was a lot of sitting around. It blew.
