Random Thoughts XII - This Thread Delivers

I actually lurked for much longer before that so I've probably been around for about 6 years. Interestingly, I consider myself to be pretty tech-savvy, but when it comes to social media I am totally clueless so I generally try to keep a low profile (see, I really like puns). I suppose this website falls under the same category. I love reading what everyone else posts but by the time I get around to posting something either someone else has already posted it or I decide it probably isn't worth posting. I think that's why the idea of a Random Thoughts Thread interested me. Who cares what I post; it's random!
Yeah, I lurked a bit at first also. Probably a couple of years before I actually joined the site.

We lost boat shoes, so if runnin man wears sperrys we have a replacement.

Also, do you know big daddy Kane?
Sperry's and work boots are the only shoes I'm willing to spend any kind of money on. I wore the same pair of Sperry's for years and finally had to replace them this winter. I wear them almost every day. I don't think I know BDK but without knowing his real name I suppose it's possible.

@RunninMan

Running is cool but most of us are fans of the Emily Blunt workouts.

And to think she married Jim Halpert.

When I first came to RTT I lurked, trying to get a feel for the thread. I knew some of the posters from the MBB threads, but others were new to me. Eventually I started posting, mostly smart ass stuff. @cowgirl836 did her thing, and they voted me in.

Of course, now I know what boobs they all are.

And I count myself as one of the biggest boobs of all.

(Is that the biggest set-up in RTT history, or what?)

I suppose I can start by introducing myself and @cowgirl836 can decide if I'm worthy.

I grew up in a small town in west-central Iowa (I was class president of a class of 54 which is partly why I decided to finally post). I went to Graceland University for a year and double majored in Ag Business and Computer Science before deciding that Iowa State was truly where I needed to be. My dad went to Iowa State so we had been going to games/events for as long as I can remember and it was only through extenuating circumstances that I ended up at Graceland, but I think I always knew that Iowa State was home. So I transferred to Iowa State to major in Ag Systems Technology. I completed one semester in that field (pun intended) and did a co-op internship with Ag Leader for a semester before deciding that while I have a passion for agriculture; I couldn't see myself having a career that would challenge me and utilize the skills that I felt were my strengths. Towards the end of that spring, a family member mentioned an internship with a land surveying/civil engineering firm in northwest Iowa, and I decided that I might as well interview just to see what would happen. They hired me even though I had no previous experience and I loved every minute of the internship. So I have just finished my first year of Civil Engineering at Iowa State and have started my second summer with the engineering firm in northwest Iowa. The goal is to eventually get both my Professional Engineer and Professional Land Surveyor licenses but that's a ways down the road yet. Four majors and three years later I think I may have finally figured out what to do with the rest of my life.

Regarding things other than school; I love any and all outdoor activities, photography, The Office, sports, terrible jokes, and running (hence the username). Feel free to interrogate me further; I tend to be a pretty easy-going guy!
Okay, I totally misread this as "Class of '54" and I thought to myself, why is this guy going for an engineering degree when he's 80+ years old??

Also, with these huge sentences, might this in fact be Royce White?

Permission to board the Random Thoughts train? To be honest I have lurked for the entirety of this thread and the majority of the last thread and at this point I figure I might as well contribute. Let me know where to send my résumé and cover letter; I feel I can bring a good amount of wit and sarcasm to the table (if that is allowed in here)!
He says he's from NW Iowa. N-dubs (@NWICY) and @coolerifyoudid, check out his credentials. He seems to be from a bit too far west for @SCyclone and I to verify anything Taco Tico related.

I feel kind of left out. I don't think cowgirl vetted me.:( And I'm still working to get added to your list of favorite posters.

The bonuses are going to be a little weird this year. Our bonuses are normally a % of our salary based on the company's performance. So if we meet all of the metrics we get 100% of whatever our % of our salary we are supposed to. Last year due to very good performance we got something like 115%. This year due to the buyout we will get 100% based off of what we have made this year as of when the deal closes and then they will have something in place for bonus plan to carry the rest of the year.

Thanks anyway though! Hope you paid out the behind!

My last company used to have a nice and convoluted system for the hourly production employee bonus plan. Essentially, they calculated what the machinery could do if everything performed optimally, set our goal for the 100% bonus well past that level, and drastically reduced things to get to our actual bonus.

It was a nice way to call us failures for goals that couldn't be reached. Everyone felt rewarded. All were happy.

I turned 21 in February. As far as pineapples go, I like them as long as they aren't on pizza. Glazed over sliced ham is the best way to eat them. Baby pineapples, however, probably shouldn't be eaten in any case.
I'm quite conflicted about this. Yes, pineapple should not go on pizza. No, it is not best on ham. The best way to eat pineapple is raw and in chunks.
