NFL: Offseason Thread

Feels like a typical Pats ring chaser special. Take a one year incentive heavy deal, play for a ring, and cash in one last time in 2019. Belichick needs some help bolstering their pass rush.
Could be. I'm not sure, though. Suh plays his best as a 3-technique. I'm not sure how well he'd fit in.

Packers are in rebuild mode. Gonna be a rough next couple years for them. Sucks for Rodgers because he isn't getting any younger.

If anything, you can blame the Packers offseason woes on Rodgers for a new contract extension. The trade with the Browns gave Green Bay an estimated $20 million in Cap Space, but they are most likely going to use (lose) a sizeable portion of that with a new extension for Rodgers.

What in the world are the Packers doing?
Trading a starter on defense at a huge position of need for a backup QB? .......

Any comments from Aaron again whether they should have consulted him first before this decision was made?

Worth every penny, whatever they pay him. You saw what happened with him out of the lineup. If he's playing, they're a playoff contender. If he isn't, they're in the basement.

Somehow I have no sympathy. Biggest tool in the league?
My point was not to make any comment on whether or not he's a d-bag. (He is)
I'm just saying that even though he wasn't as productive, stat-wise, he's still one hell of a run defender, and can still be quite disruptive. His departure from Miami had less to do with him being a good player, and more to do with him having a giant salary.

He'll have plenty of teams vying for his services.

Agreed. Personality issues aside, he's still productive, clogs up the middle, and consistently commands a double team. Plus he's been incredibly durable. He'll draw plenty of interest.

I agree in part. That Packer defense is going to be awful though. Rodgers is going to have to put up 30 points a game to get most wins. Also, Packers still don't have a running back worth a damn.

He's not worth it, that's pretty obvious.

Depends on the size of the deal he signs. He was never going to live up to the expectations of that enormous deal he got from Miami - nobody could.

Teams will always put up with an idiot or an ******* as long as his play on the field at the very least offsets whatever problems he brings. Bring him into a situation with a strong culture and locker room, he'll be fine. He can still play at a pretty high level.

From a cap standpoint, the 'phins are strapped as they are over the cap right now. Trading Landry, releasing Suh, probably get rid of Julius Thomas also, will help. Wish they would move up in the draft.

I've been hearing some rumors they might go QB at #11 overall. Baker Mayfield could still be available when they're up. I'm not a huge Mayfield fan (I question his attitude and leadership), but it probably is time to either move on from Tannehill or at least start thinking about it.

I didn't realize the number of picks the Bills have acquired for this upcoming draft:

Round 1: Pick No. 21

Round 1: Pick No. 22

Round 2: Pick No. 53

Round 2: Pick No. 56

Round 3: Pick No. 65

Round 3: Pick No. 96

Round 4: Pick No. 121

Round 5: Pick No. 158

Round 5: Pick No. 166

That's a ton to wheel and deal for a QB. I love the NFL draft and all the drama that goes on that week, so the Bills have piqued my interest. I feel bad for Bills fans in that the front-office is probably going to have to part with a number of those picks to land the QB that they like the most. They've lost all leverage by parting with Taylor and not even feigning interest with signing Cousins.

Maybe they double dip and add a QB in free agency and at the end of the first round. Last year it cost the Chiefs their '17 first rounder and third rounder plus their first round pick this year just to move up seventeen spots for Mahomes. That's a lot to give up unless they're totally sold on one of the guys in this year's class.

Makes you wonder if Justin Houston would be available for the right offer. Big contract, though.
My 100% made up guess is everyone on the Chiefs is available except Pat Mahomes and Kareem Hunt. I bet they'd deal Houston, Dee Ford, Eric Fisher and even Eric Berry for the right picks.

Trading a starter on defense at a huge position of need for a backup QB? If Rodgers goes down, the Packers are screwed no matter who the backup is, so it doesn't really matter who that backup is at this point. We learned that last year.

The Packers defense is complete garbage. Will be interesting to see what they do, if anything, to address this? I'm losing hope. Will some fellow Pack fan give me some reasons for hope?

If you think this move was made without a plan for replenishing the CBs, you need to think a little harder. My guess is they're talking with a FA or two right now, and plan on picking someone like Josh Jackson. Gutekunst will be doing business a lot differently than Thompson did.

Word is also out now that after Randall got benched following his tantrum in Chicago, the players wanted him out (released). It's pretty obvious now that McCarthy was only playing out the string with him.

You might be right, although I'd add Kelce and Hill to your list of untouchables.

I read this morning that the Packers have already reached out to Jimmy Graham's agent. Maybe Gutekunst will be a little more active in free agency than Ted Thompson was.
