Coaching Change

Big loss but good for him. Colts have been losing ground in the AFC South the past few years and need all the help they can get.
Bright side, it's good to have connections in the NFL.

Best thing about going to the Colts too is that there won't be any expectations out of you for 3-4 years. The Colts are a long way from being even decent.

We are all gun shy because of the turnover in CPRs coaches. Big difference here is, I'm guessing Campbell keeps the same player and scheme philosophy. CPR was all over the place with each change. Keeping things basically the same means a coach will be hired that is pretty similar and players will have a general comfort zone still.

Great up and coming coaches will WANT to work for CMC. I would think CMC will have his pick of great young coaches who want to learn from him and who will fit the culture at ISU to a T.

Not too sure coaches were flocking to Ames to experience the miracle being built under CPR...;)

All the more reason to make sure the hire is a fit for the “culture”. Miss here and it is very visible to everyone involved. The mark of a secure leader is to not screw up the good of your predecessor. Too often people feel the compelling need to “make their mark” or do things the “right way” (i.e. “their way”) when the best decision is to make decisions based on the talent you have and tweak what already works vs. changing directions (see Rhoads, Paul - OC debacle). In some ways the leader needs to bend to the talent and not the other way around.

Looks like Ayeni left to early, he could have been our new OC.

I'd MUCH rather have Hofher as OC than Ayeni. Not a shot at Ayeni, but I don't think he's ready for that yet. I'd be happy with Hofher as long as we bring in a good OL coach.

There is definitely real smoke to this. I've been looking into it since Friday morning. Still can't get anybody to confirm anything. Nobody is talking. Stay tuned.

Guessing the Colts may be a little gun shy right now talking about new coaches until the contracts are signed and the guy is in Indianapolis.

The Colts are a complete mess right now. Josh McDaniels even screwed them over. Their fans aren't happy at all. Not the best situation to go into, however, as I said before, very little to no expectations I guess.

I expect two great coaching hires to come in the next month. One to fill the already vacated slot by Ayeni and now presumably Manning. If Campbell can attract good players, he can attract good coaches. I would encourage poaching from a smaller school, some one up and coming.

Didn't we already fill Ayeni's job with the Kent State guy?

I thought we still had room to fill the assistant head coach position Ayeni vacated. I maybe be off on the title but Ayeni held two positions if I'm not mistaken. Maybe Williams or somebody else who knows better can comment?

Yeah... on one hand its not wrong, but on the other hand programs that stay good and keep improving are ones that are able to keep some consistency in staff.

Not really. Urban Meyer and Nick Saban have staffs that are constantly changing.

I believe we filled Ayeni's assistant coach spot with Scheelhaase, but the NCAA added another assistant coach spot that hasn't been filled yet.
