I got a chance today to watch a replay of the game on Clone Zone. It was nice hearing a t.v. announcer comments to go with watching the game.

I found it interesting that the one announcer from the start thought out dual quarter back system was a bad idea and that Arnaud should just be handed the keys. The other announcer was a little bit more low key and really didn't voice an opinion.

As the game progressed and Bates made some pretty spectacular throws and runs with his feet; the first guy got a little more quiet while the other guy started gushing about Bates athletic ability and that he need to be on the field in some manner.

I can see why it's a tough call for Coach Chizik. Arnaud seems to make less mistakes and has a strong arm. Bates however has a good arm too and can beat you with his feet. He really reminds me of Seneca Wallace.

I wonder if this will go on all season?

Anybody that thinks PB will be the starter soon did not watch the game. AA played nearly flawless FB.

im expecting a little more bates against Kent State but still arnaud plays a little more, then i have a feeling that at iowa bates will have a huge day, win the game for us and steal the starting spot

It all depends on what sort of coach Chizik is. If he is like DMac, and doesn't like a whole lot of risk, he goes Arnaud. If he is riverboat gambler, then he goes Bates. I think these two are very equal as far as QBs. I think there is more risk/reward with Bates. It is a tough call either way. The thing is, if Bates is the guy, will Arnaud see much PT? Because I know that Bates is too good of an athlete to keep off the field. Man what a dilemma. I think the team is cool with things though. Too young to worry about who is the man, they seem to just want to play some football and have some fun. Man this could be a surprisingly entertaining season.

but if arnaud can play as well as he did against SDSU then bates doesnt have a chance to get the job... but the competition only gets tougher

When we have this problem at all positions, we will have arrived.

We are going to have a pretty darn good QB sitting on the bench come October at the latest

They both bring different things to the table, and IMO if Bates can limit his mistakes and turnovers I think he will eventually win the job. But the guys looked very solid and I'm extremely happy we have two guys who I think can be Big 12 QB's.

As long as both can run everything in our offense, it doesn't really matter, but if Bates can make those moves and hang on to the ball, it will make us much tougher to defend. On the other hand we have young receivers that need the ball, especially early, we don't want him to tuck and run too often, so maybe AA is the better choice. potAto/potato

Right, Bates made one rookie mistake, but he has a better stronger arm than AA and has the ability to scramble for great plays the likes of which we have not seen since Seneca.

How could anyone not want Bates as our starting QB. Did you guys not watch the Illinois game last night? If Bates can be half the QB Juice Williams is then we will have ourselves one hell of a QB. I just love the way Philip can make plays happen with this feet.

Bates does not have the better stronger arm. Look on the zip on out passes for example. AA has much more zip on his ball. Bates throws a good deep ball but he has to really chuck to get it there.

Bates needs to play. But he won't be ISU's starter this season. AA is just better

AA can run to. And by your logic than you would rather have had Juice Williams than Chase Daniels?!?! Why b/c he threw 3 deep balls to WIDE OPEN receivers? He missed a ton of open guys on 5-15 yard passes. He made poor choices in the pocket. Chase didn't. He ran for more yards by making the smarter read and his team won the game. That is why AA will be our starter

Are you saying Philip can't make the throws and can't make the right reads? Because I think he can. Bates isn't Juice.
