Random Thoughts XI (Eleven Pipers Piping)

That just sucks.

They have plenty of sections of micro and macro in big lecture halls at ISU.

Next time he cancels, you could probably look one up on the schedule of courses, show up without anyone noticing, and see how far behind you are.

One of sons took micro in high school on a dual enrollment with Indian Hills CC and had an idiot teacher. He learned his micro by looking up Khan Academy videos online.

No doubt. Nobody would notice.
If one TA doesn't recognize him, they'll just assume he's someone else's and move along, assuming they move around or sit in different places (or even attend the lecture, since every class is run differently).

Random thought while shoveling and again this morning after seeing how many crashes happened yesterday and that 7 people lost their lives including two kids. I am by no means saying we shut everything down every time it snows but would it really hurt for EVERYONE to just have a snow day every now and then? It is 2017 after all and without much effort most people can work from pretty much everywhere. That being said this is America so "Thou must work at all costs. World will stop if I don't".

Plus if you are given more than 10 days vacation the economy will collapse, the Mongols will be at the door and your children will end up as pickpockets on the streets of New Paris!

Don't be so sure. Those are classes they can probably get a grad student for.
DMACC rarely, if ever anymore, hires full time. He may be the only one right now, but instructors for those courses are a dime a dozen.
I think he’s a good instructor but after today idk what to think about him.
Here's my DMACC story.

First things first, I ******* hate them.
I went to DMACC for a year before going to ISU. Nothing too dramatic there. Pretty easy classes. Felt like another year of high school. Well I had a few friends that I went to high school with that were at DMACC at the same time. We'd chat often and go eat lunch together.

Well that winter we had a storm a lot like last night, except it started later and was still really bad in the evening.

At that time, if DMACC could clear their parking lot, they didn't cancel classes. One of my friends had a night class and she drove from Des Moines to Ankeny. The route was a lot less developed in 1997 than it is today. My friend lost control, crossed the center line and hit a snow plow. She died and it still makes me sad. I wish she had decided to skip class that night instead of driving. And I still blame DMACC for not cancelling classes in that kind of storm.
thats messed up! The 10 minutes drive from Ames to Boone took me 30 minutes yesterday. Still can’t believe they didn’t cancel classs in the morning.

OH, and I thought about her during my 2 hour drive home last night. I had to go from downtown to Beaverdale to pick up the baby and then to Ankeny. Usually takes about 25 minutes.

Driving a child in that crap just brings the terror to a whole new level.

When I was a student and in various organizations, I worked on some projects with the ISU general counsel. He died on a day like yesterday when a semi went off the road coming the other direction on I35 near Ankeny, way before they had those wire things in the middle.

Totally agree. I had a class at Lago and got there early. Started taking notes but got a couple different looks from students. It was going good, I really understood this stuff. After 15 minutes I looked at the clock and realized it was 10:15, my class is at 11:00 not 10:00. I had this class last semester/year. I packed up and walked out and could see the instructor stop and watch me walk out. I left for a bit so they wouldn't see me when they left.

Well copying and pasting didnt work so I will just say it.

Sounds like watching paint dry.

I'll take another corner off my man card and admit that I really liked it. It's a little more exciting and interesting than the one paragraph blurb from wikipedia. And Rachel McAdams is a fox.

Spoiler alert, if you're actually planning to watch it.

Yeah, wont watch it. I couldn't get through that clip.

To each their own. It's a good one to watch with a lady friend. Makes you seem sensitive and romantic.

That’s thoughtful, you need to meet my husband.

One of sons girlfriends had never seen any Star Wars movies and she binge watched all of them (and I mean all of them, prequels, Rogue One, etc.) with him. Told him he probably owes her 10 movies of choice just for Jar Jar.

My wife had never seen ANY of the Star Wars movies when we met. She watched them all with me and enjoyed them, for the most part, and has seen all of the new ones with me too!

I also got her to watch Firefly with me, which she liked a lot. SHe enjoyed the Lord of the Rings trilogy as well, but we both agreed that The Hobbit movies were stretched out (like butter over too much bread) and didn't need to be a trilogy.
She's widened her spectrum of entertainment to include SOME sci-fi and fantasy.

Six nerdy men in the house, have seen all that. Loved Firefly except wasn’t as fond of the movie as the series.

When the first LOTR came out, took oldest two kids and they were pretty upset about Gandolf so I read them all of LOTR and The Hobbit. Pretty complicated books for their ages but they sat for hours to listen.

Playing catch up this morning....and man it's a posting flurry here. After reading the SC saga I am expecting to be contacted soon by Marsha the Hawkeye. That's assuming her third marriage was not the charm.

Unless she's extremely rich, I wouldn't answer anything from somebody looking for number 4. Not a positive track record.

My 10 year old has tried reading the Hobbit and got a little bogged down. I think he'll come back to it eventually but he wanted to read some shorter fun books at the time. I know he wants to read The Lord of The Rings series as well, but I think that should wait a few more years since it's not the easiest read for some adults. He prides himself of reading big books though.
