OT - Cutting Cable

New streaming service just announced called Philo. It is aimed for people with antenna and who don't want sports or news bloat in the bundle. It has the Discovery, Scripps, Viacom, and AMC / BBC stations along with a 30-day DVR for $16/mo.

The splintering of the cable bundle continues. Really interested to see what the ESPN+ streaming service will be priced at and include when it comes out next year.

True, I guess the point I was trying to make is to me there is a difference in quality between an ESPN or TBS steam and the KCCI stream on Vue.

My experience with Vue is that ESPN has the poorest streaming quality compared to the other sports networks.

Since some of you have Vue, maybe you can answer this. I've seen commercials claiming that you can watch anywhere on PS Vue, but if I try to watch anywhere but my home network, it blocks me out. Anyone able to actually watch anywhere?
use the PlayStation vue app not your browser.

I am. I should be the only one trying to watch, and it won't work.
That is a conundrum. I watch PsVue on my ps3, ps4, Roku, Amazon fire tv, smart phones and tablet. So I don’t think it should be a number of devices thing. Only thing I can think of is to call PsVue customer support. I’ve called them before and remember it is hard to find their phone number so I’d suggest just googling it instead of going through their website’s customer support links.

I'm not sure if I should post this in this thread or start a new thread.

I am having troubles with the reception of Fox while watching it with my over the air antenna. I first noticed it about a week ago, but I don't remember having troubles before that. All of the other stations seem to come in fine. It is sort of acting like there is snow on the dish or there is interference from weather. I am in Ames if that makes a difference.

Is anyone else having similar troubles or is it something with my setup?

Did anybody else notice their PS Vue bill went up to $55 from $45? I see they have a $45 plan, but I never got any notification on this that I can remember.

I'm glad I've tried this but relying on Mediacom to provide smooth internet all the time and the frustration of the fast-forwarding not working on many shows. The seemingly uncanny issue with my internet every time my son and I sit down to watch the Cyclones. The Fox OnDemand doing that awful 'So You Think You Can Dance' commercial every commercial break for over a month. And the recording of every football game instead of just the one I want, then I can't even watch mine, I've had it.

I'm currently shopping DTV again. I saved a lot over the year and a half, but I'm too spoiled. Maybe when I can get a reliable internet provider I'll go back. Does anybody know if you get DirecTV Now when you have DirecTV?

You do not. They are two completely separate services.

I just checked and my monthly renewal that went through just a few days ago was still $44.99

Think Mediacom is bad now for streaming, wait until net neutrality is dismantled.

Yeah, especially since in many cases your ISP is also your cable provider. I'm worried about what this will do to cord cutting.

Though honestly it is just as likely to just drive me away from cable completely. I can listen to Walters/Heft for the call and see the highlights on twitter with only a short delay.

For awhile, I thought my streaming quality issue was either Vue or our PS4/AppleTV...then our CenturyLink modem mysteriously stopped working (our neighborhood and Norwalk in general have had atrocious luck with CenturyLink). Once their tech came out and unplugged and plugged something back in outside, I decided I had had enough with the router they forced on us and bought my own. Holy cow what a difference a halfway decent router makes. We've had no issues streaming. The quality is great, there is almost no buffer going from channel to channel on Vue, and 4K works excellent on Netflix.

I've been using Mediacom's **** router/modem combo for the last 4 months and finally pulled the trigger on a new router and separate modem on Cyber Monday. My bank account is happy that I waited.

I think net neutrality controls in some form will be back. But they need to be done in a way such that they aren't subject to the whims of whoever is leading the FCC.

One reason for the need of net neutrality rules is the lack of real competition in many (most?) places for real high speed (>100 MB) internet services. How many place really have several high speed providers? Many times municipal charters give all the business to one provider. Those arrangements need to be scrutinized as well.

The ball is in the court of the providers now. They claimed they would make significant infrastructure investments if net neutrality rules were dismantled, so lets see what they do.

Got two gen 4 Apple TVs. I turn it on, it turns on the tv and I have Netflix, Tablo, Directv Now and The ESPN apps in the top row. So easy and works great. Volume control right on the remote.

I have to have a GPON modem when I move to Norwalk. Not sure why. Is that what you were using from CL?

If you haven't already, download the "Movies Anywhere" app and start syncing your accounts. This app is replacing "Disney Movies Anywhere" only it's a single service that links all your Vudu, iTunes, Disney Movies Anywhere, Amazon, and Google Play movies in a single platform.

I just did that last weekend and all my Vudu movies imported to my iTunes library like I already purchased the titles. I even tested Vudus "disc to digital" feature where you scan a Blu-Ray disc and pay $2 to own a digital copy - and those titles showed up in my iTunes library too. I was about ready to drop $80 for the Harry Potter box set on iTunes and instead I spent $16 in Vudu and now the movies are on both of my AppleTVs.
