Seems like everyone I know with season tickets isn't going. Most of them went in years past to Thursday games. Don't know what the deal is.

The attendance would be higher if it wasn't a thursday night game. My guess is around 46k.

This is a lot of the buzz I'm getting from people in Ames. Not the diehards like we all are.

Can of worms...

They knew this was going to be a Thursday night game, even before the schedule came out. Not many excuses unless you have no vacation days.

I say 44,000-45,000

I was basing my numbers off the season many figured we would have Meyer and Blythe's jr years.

Coach Chizik's hiring brought a LOT of people in last year.

I can't wait for the day that we can expect 55,000 on opening day and JTS is rocking! Here's to a great Thursday night!

And the "buzz" (I use this term lightly) surrounding the program this year, should keep attendance from falling too far... It will be no worse than '06, at worst...

EXACTLY! Throw the whole thursday night game debate out the window. I ask for this time off work no matter when i know its coming. its only 1 game a year, the rest are all saturdays, so the only excuse is no vacation days.

Plus - IT'S THE HOME OPENER. I know a lot of people who live a good distance who are making the trip. There really isn't much for good reasons for someone close by or especially living in Ames not to be there.

I got thursday off for the game and then have a trip down to Branson, Missouri from fri-tues for a family trip. (I am also making the trip to Las Vegas for the UNLV game) So It's kind funny to me I am gonna be making a trip to the one of the most "family friendly" destinations in America and the Sin City capital in the same year, both being around Iowa State football games.

As far as opening day rocking, I think if we opened on a saturday, it would be wilder. Easy sell out.

I think if we had a winning season/bowl win/big 12 champ. it would make the next season's home opener a sellout no matter. It could be on a friggin' monday morning. Things like that are needed to induce the fringe fans who are not found on this website.

Good point. It's very difficult for me to try to get inside the mind of a "fringe" fan. I'm sure most of us on this board are in the same boat

Perhaps if attendance is a disappointment, JP will consider scrapping the Thursday night thing and go back to Saturday openers. I know the arguments--students going home on long three day holiday, chance to be on TV, etc. But Thursday night games are a major pain for most working people and experience has shown that TV appearances aren't a guaranteed thing. Either have an opener on Thursday with an opponent who's going to generate some interest (say another BCS school), or give the hardcore fans a break and have the opener on Saturday.
BTW, I'll be there at 4 p.m., getting the tailgate stuff set up so when the rest of the guys show up, we'll be ready. I respect those who have a different opinion on this, but that doesn't help the loyal season ticket holders who don't have the option of extra time off from work.
