Hurricane Harvey

Should have told them it would, but they'd need a funnel to get it in their tank...
We were driving from KC to Colorado one time, and it was probably 3am in the middle of nowhere. Three of us are sleeping in the car as we get gas. I hear a clunk clunk clunk noise and I spring to life - "oh ****, Robert is trying to put diesel in the Camry".

He was sleep deprived and he had a pen ready to hold the flap open on start pouring it in. I got there in time to tell him to put the green handle down and pull forward 10 feet.

Niece, husband and kids are all right in League City, But they didn't realize the effects of no gas, few if and groceries, and blocked roads. I still say they should have left on Wednesday when estimates of up to 40 inches of rain were estimated.

My nieces and their families could have gone on up the road to my sister's home in College Station, but Spring & the Woodlands weren't supposed to be hit much, and there is a fear of looters if you leave homes that are not flooded. The one in Spring and her husband son & daughter have spent the last two days as muckers, helping to clean out the homes of friends & neighbors that were at a lower elevation that they were. For a time they were in something of an island, but she said that seems to be receding enough for them to get to a store tomorrow or the next day (if the rain doesn't bring the waters back up).
There's a meme being shared around FB by my Texan family members that has a back view of a gunfighter complete with spurs & ten gallon hat, squaring off with a hurricane. Caption: Back off, Irma. :)

The story thats blowing up twitter this morning has to do with a mom who was with her 3 year old daughter and drowned. The girl clung to her mom's floating body until she was rescued. Really had to collect myself and get my **** together at work after reading that. My son is 3 btw, so that hits close to home.

A gofund me page is up for that girl. Sorry i dont have a link handy.

This one?

Edit: I have the link, but it's not posting. Wondering if CF doesn't allow gofund me accounts?

Anyway, just google gofundme, jordyngrace

So far 47 confirmed dead for this overhyped storm. I'm sure the number will jump up even more as they start getting into these neighborhoods and searching.

So you want me to read through how many posts? I don't care THAT much....

Not at all. This was hyped up as biggest storm in 15 years. One mayor even told residents to write their SSN on their arm to identify bodies when they die. Using those metrics this was overhyped.

I notice at least one of the people claiming "overhyped" tried to delete their post. None have come back to say well ****, I was way, way, way wrong on that.

Eh, I'm sure they'll live and learn. Most of us are Iowans so we're used to unpredictable tornadoes and snow events rather than monster storms bearing down on coastlines :)

I have noticed that if you look at Houston and surrounding area affected by floods and the hurricane using Google Maps on your desktop/laptop the city and area looks normal. Look at it on your phone using the Google Maps app the satellite photos have updated and include a lot of the flooding and destruction where the hurricane hit.
