Made that trip as well and set up at the airport in Boonville, MO. Clouds threatened, but we saw everything perfectly for totality. I did question my sanity as we left and headed towards KC on I-70. I was amazed there were no pile-ups. I saw a number of near crashes and collisions. The post-eclipse traffic added over an hour to the trip home (it was about 3.5 going down and almost 5 returning to our undisclosed location in Iowa).

So, like every other day on the Missouri side then

Two and a half hour trip from MO to Ames took over 5 hours on I-35. Mrs. Velo was checking as we went along and alternate routes such as 69 were solid red as well. We ended up just staying at our friends' house in Ames and finished the trip early Tue morning. Was significantly less traffic.

nah, we just went to the terrace (a part of the union which is on the lake) and had a drink and talked. We were there for about 3.5 hours
drinks on the terrace, excellent choice.

Paisan's is a nice, relatively expensive place for your next date.

Oooooh! Here's an idea. Why don't you report to CG regarding future dates and she can write up the play-by-play in her own particular style that is used for sports updates. This is not to suggest that you are not a fine poster/writer/communicator, etc.

Probably a good call.

When we picked up our dog at brother's in Indianola after last minute decision to go to Wyoming and be more assured of good weather, he had two different families of Minnesota friends staying with him as they decided to bail on Interstate 35. Our dog kind of seemed reluctant to leave, he was getting a lot of moochin' food and and belly rubs.

That might be a good third date place, we're doing Indian food next

That would actually be really entertaining. I also just see CG sitting at a table near me, trying to act nonchalant and inconspicuous, and failing

I wish Iowa would have made the same call as MO regarding road construction. They suspended construction activity on Saturday through Monday and opened up roads as much as possible. It could have been much worse if they hadn't. Iowa doing this at the very least along the I-35 south and I-80 west corridors may have made a bit of difference. I felt less bad for us that were taking the trip - we knew what we were getting into. I felt really bad for the regular drivers on these routes, especially the truck drivers. Taking the rigs through dense traffic and construction zones with delays approaching an hour cannot be fun.

Beat me to it. An option would be live FB streaming.

Now, off to another doctor appointment for me for more evaluation of my deadness. FML.

I've been trying to convince my wife to get tickets for the UNI game. I just found out my niece's birthday party is planned for the same day. Her actual birthday isn't until Sept 17th, but they are holding the party early since her step-sister is heading back to New York to be with her mom.

Pyro Cows DO tend to stand out in a crowd...

We're visiting my cousin's daughter when we visit ISU on Saturday. Mom wants us to bring her a birthday cake since it's her first birthday away from home. Her birthday is 2 weeks later.
